What's your opinion of Rhondo?

My brother lives in Boston and we were having a conversation about Rhondo, my brother has a lot of faith in the guy, from the games I have seen, I have been not nearly as impressed. I think that defensively he is pretty good, seems to be active and gets a lot of steals. Offensively, I think the guy is very raw, he seems to take an unusual amount of bad shots. Obviously, I haven't seen all the celtics games this year, but I was curious what the general feeling is about Rhondo. Good luck this year guys.

Rondo is currently a top 15 Point guard, but will improve to be a top 10 Point guard for the next 7-10 years. That's good enough for me. One less position you have to worry about for the next decade.

i think rondo can be the best defensive point in the league, and his offensive skills get better each game. i have a hard time judging his ceiling

He's an unusual player, because his flaws are obvious and make him easy to criticize. But he has serious, serious game. People who don't like him tend not to see the forest for the trees. They criticize his shooting, for example, and forget about plays like his strip-spin-assist off Duncan, which a lot of point guards in the league couldn't make. But how do you categorize something like that, and put it into a number, so that it makes the "experts" happy? We had guys on this board putting Telfair ahead of him last year. Give me a break...
The guy can play. He clearly outplayed Parker tonight, and he's only going to get better. What do you want?
Also, every single team that we talked trade with last season wanted Rondo ahead of Telfair. every team, without exception. GMs aren't stupid (well, maybe McHale excepted). They know where this kid is going.

Rondo's fantastic. He still has some things to iron out in his game (he still needs to learn not to go 1 on 5 even if he's got the defense retreating), but he's now a solid midrange shooter, always was a great facilitator of the offense, a very scrappy player, lightning quick, and I think will be a very solid man defender (though the jury is still out on that).
And at the risk of being redundant ... it's Rondo, not Rhondo.

I think he's been the third most important player for the Celtics this year. Yes, over Ray Allen. He's having an incredible year. He's such a heady player. He knows exactly where to be, he knocks down open shots, and he can score when he's needed to. I don't think it's true he takes many bad shots; he's shooting a good field goal percentage, and he's definitely a pass-first player.

I like his game a lot but as a previous poster said he has some very obvious flaws. He has great defensive ability but is not yet a great defender (he often gets torched by quality point guards). He has a great feel for the game without being a massive assist generator. His mid range jumpshot is adequate and is approaching good, he doesn't need to be able to shoot threes if he can consistently stick that jump shot. He needs to learn to finish in the paint better and not always think pass first because he can get to the rim very easily in this league.
Chris Paul and Deron Williams are going to be the two best point guards in the league for the next 10 years easily and I don't think he has any chance of catching them. He could in a few years be top 5 in the league though.
What I like most about him is that he could quite possibly get a quadruple double at some stage. I would not be suprised if I saw a box score that read something like 14 points, 11 assists, 10 steals, 10 boards. Not surprised at all.
I love his game but if New Orleans or Utah were to offer up Williams or Paul for him I would make that trade in a second. But there aren't any other point guards in the league at this stage who I would rather have. So that says a lot about him I guess.

future above average starter. One of the guys who will never be considerd an All-star but a very good starter.
I think at his best he'll be Andre Miller-esque.. but still has a long ways to go.

unless he stops improving, i dont see how he doesnt make at least one all star game. lets not forget how many mediocre points there are, and how promising he is based on what hes done so far and his defensive ability. its not like the Glove didnt earn double the rep just due to his D

hmm.......interesting. Noted on the misspelling of his name, my bad (only get to see the celts twice a year as a warriors fan). Good point, about his flaws being very obvious, so it takes away from him getting more credit. I guess, when I see him play, I will see something spectacular, like the strip-spin move. But then you see something idiotic the next play, like him going 1-5 and airballing a floater. I am rooting for you guys to make it out of the east......please knock out detroit, I can stand them.

That reminds me a lot more of Eddie House. Rondo definitely has off-days when it comes to scoring, but he usually contributes in other ways when his shot isn't falling, so it doesn't really hurt the team. However, as should be clear from his field goal percentage, he doesn't consistently attempt shots he can't make. He's actually really good at playing within his abilities and deferring to other players when he doesn't have a good shot.

Rondo is in a phase of his career where he has to take shots he's not comfortable with, so as to learn to make them. (That's because ALL shots are shots he's not comfortable with, still.)
That would seem to VERY easily lead to some shots that he really, truly shouldn't take. I'm giving him a pass on those, and I'm optimistic about him.
His struggles in college showed that he's not lightning-quick at adapting to the challenging aspects of a scheme, but he seems like he's going to wind up as being an on-court plus in smarts with some more seasoning.

his stock has gone way up after the Spurs game, IMO.
Those foul shots, the steal and the rebound, they were just money.

Rondo could very possibly start for the East all stars NEXT YEAR.
Think about it. With Kidd in Dallas and Rondo improving rapidly, who in the East is guaranteed to beat him out?
Especially if the Celtics win the title- then everyone will be voting for him.
