Seeing as how everyone on the squad is American, if USA Basketball sent the Celtics to wear the Team USA uniforms this summer, would they walk away with the gold medal?

I think they would. Team defense is excellent. They have the perimeter shooting to bust zone defenses wide open. And they have big men capable of staying with perimeter-oriented big men which many of the Euro-teams seem to have.

and i think you could say the same for the other top 8-10 teams in the league. the main problem teams face now is not being familiar with eachother when the opponents have been playing together for 5-10 years.

Agreed. However, I wouldn't want them to go. Our Big 3 are in their 30s and I wouldn't want them wearing themselves out playing in the offseason.

i went kind of in between, i said silver becuase im sure theyd do well, but lets not discredit other national teams that much, there are some very talented teams. the biggest thing is that our national team seems to do less than any other, which is why they have chemistry. i expected us to win the last tourney because we mostly played well. the real issue to me, wasnt even the chemistry so much because kidd and kobe did a lot to make everyone else fall into place around LBJ and Melo who are the only guys who seem as commited to the national team as their regular teams that were on the former and latter teams, but our lack of familiarity with the nuances of international ball.

then again, with the young guns that have developed now i.e. CP, deron, roy, howard is even better, aldridge has a sick game for international ball, i doubt well come up short the next time. although im not sure how set they are in the roster.

Fair enough, but how deep does that team go? Calderon and Gasol are the only ones who would be playing above-average NBA-caliber basketball. Garbajosa is injured pretty significantly, isn't he?

well seeing as how the wiretap is talking about the raps suing the spanish federation because of injury related insurance and the avascular necrosis of his left tibia is a potential career ending injury.

in case you didnt know avascular necrosis is basically when bone tissue dies because it didnt have enough blood flow.

i would say we may never see garbajosa play again, although he has apparently begun practicing some again, so best wishes

I have long been a proponent of sending the NCAA champion team. One of the reasons the U.S.A has not been winning lately is because other national teams play together a long time where the U.S. throws a team together at the last minute.

BTW - I don't see " Calderon, Navarro, Fernandez, Garbajosa, Gasol." being any better than Foye, McCants, Snyder, Gomes, Jefferson.

Then you dont watch much international basketball.

Are you kidding? USA "dream team" can˙t win gold and you would send some random teams there? Minnesota? NCAA champion? They would get killed!

The Wolves would get schooled by Spain and probably some other international teams, too.

On the other hand, the Celtics would certainly be strong favourites to take Gold at the Olympics. KG is a nasty international player.

No worries. USA Basketball is more concerned about selling jerseys than they are about winning gold. They want the big names there. Besides, KG would never agree to going anyhow.

I don't think so. Not even close. Argentina would destroy the TWolves.

Celts would win, but they would have to play like a bigtime team in midseason form. They would have to be clicking.

The problem with Olympics is our teams are always poorly constructed and aren't clicking and cohesive.

A playoff caliber NBA team in midseason form and motivated to win is a shoe in to win the gold. Problem is, the U.S. struggles to plau with the same intensity.

Yeah, as said... What about the Spain national basketball team?

Since they'd be playing by FIBA rules, I don't think it's a given, but my money would be on them.

Spain, with Gasol, also looks good.

What the Celts would have that past USA teams didn't have is teamwork, defense, and shooting.

Nothing's a given in this day and age.

Slovenia didn't even come in the top 10 in '06. The Celts would destroy Slovenia, just as the USA team did two years ago.
