How good is this guy? My first basketball memory I remember is watching NBA on NBC and watching a Knicks-Pacers game, and seeing him drop an 80 foot shot, without taking a step or anything. And the other night during the points explosion against Seattle, it came to my attention how good he was. He had a triple-double through 2 1/2 Quarters.

As a New Englander, it makes me happy to see a Umass product be as successful as he has even though he's never played more than 72 games in a season, it pained me year-after-year to read how he has to have some sort of season ending surgery. This guy has so much talent, and doesn't get nearly enough love around the NBA.

He's 2nd in the NBA in Rebounds (only behind D12's ridiculous 14.4)
Almost a full block ahead of 2nd.
He has 2 triple doubles on the year, to lead all power forwards and centers (Dirk has 1, and Boozer has 1)

The worst part of Camby's amazing year? There's still a good chance he could be left off the All-NBA team. Statistically I would put him behind Dwight Howard, because he has had a monstrous year. That would make him the 2nd rated Center in the NBA. I don't know how much time is needed, but I can see him being put behind Amare, even though Shaq is the starting center now, Yao Ming and his durable 55 games, Duncan even though he's a power forward too. Even Tyson Chandler would probably get on the team before Camby, and all his points come off of Alley-oops from Chris Paul.

preachin to the choir here, man. hes been one of the reasons my fantasy team is as nice as it is.

Yeah, he's pretty amazing. One of the more unique skillsets in the history of basketball. He's like a 6'11" Rajon Rondo.

One of only a handful of players who is truly capable of a quadruple-double.

Good to see him healthy for a full season (so far).

How many guys miss a PTS-REB-BLK triple-double because they don't score enough points?

I was hoping we would get him instead of all the trades that Danny did.

I always thought a duo of him and Big Al would be nice to watch.

i hear you. there is no reason to complain but Marcus Camby back in Mass would be special.

Well, he turned out better than Lou Roe, and that's what's really important, lol.

The thing is that he has never really been healthy. He's probably better today than he ever has been, and he's now 34 years old. Imagine where his career numbers could have been had he been able to play 70+ games a year.

No one should deny his talent, ever. Just his durability.

He is a very underrated ball player. People look at him as a shotblocker and rebounder but he's more than that. The Knicks was dumb enough to trade him away. He is injury prone but when he is on the court he can put up some numbers.

I had his UMass jersey as a kid.

he is a solid NBA player. he has had a great career and handles himself with class. not much more to say about him than that, he is a contributor not a difference maker.

(by difference maker I mean someone who carries his team to playoff success as a primary option)

he, imo, is the guy Phoenix should have gone after. i know its much easier said than done, but if you Put Camby on the frontline and move Amare to PF, wow, that team would DOMINATE imo.

Me too. We had UMass basketball seasons tickets for a couple years before we moved away. Hence I've always been a huge Camby fan.
