Rafer Madness

What was the deal with Rafer? Man, he turned on Rondo like a little hand-checking was ripe for a streetfighting showdown.
Rhondo should watch out - Rafer might come and get him. This dude is a few screws lose
Rafer has had an illustrious career:
he was kicked off his junior-college team after he, according to a 1997 report in the Los Angeles Times, dropped a weight on the groin of a sleeping teammate with whom he had argued.
faced battery charges for beating up a neighbor who complained his music was too loud a
faced battery charges for striking a former girlfriend outside the weight room at Fresno State University.
spent a month in county jail after he refused to complete the anger-management course that was a condition of his parole in one of those cases;
he spent the 1998-99 season on the NBA's suspended list because of his prolific entanglements with the justice system.
recently had assault charges dropped for slashing a man with a knife in a nightclub. Prosecutors were unable to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt
Three weeks prior he was was charged with misdemeanor assault and public intoxication in Houston. Alston was accused of grabbing a parking attendant's arm, shaking him and spitting on him after his vehicle was towed.
I think he even got into a game of fisticuffs with Sam Mitchel (raptors coach) when he was a Raptor.
My hat goes of to young Rondo - sticking up for himself... but they should increase security for Rondo, that dropping the weight on the crotch thing has to be a BAD way to wake up. But how does someone like this stick around the NBA - his numbers aren't THAT good. I am glad we have no one like this in our locker room

Rockets guard Rafer Alston, known for talking trash, had recent run-ins with Hornets center Tyson Chandler and Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic. Add Rajon Rondo to his list of targets.
At the opening tap, as Alston tried to get position, he seemed to elbow Rondo in the neck. Rondo responded by pushing Alston. After several pushes, Rondo balled his fists at his side.
After being separated by a referee, Rondo and Alston were slapped with technicals. Nothing further ensued, but the crowd went wild. When Houston coach Rick Adelman told Alston to relax, he replied that he was trying to get in Rondo's head.
"It wasn't nothing," Rondo said. "He just pushed me and I pushed him back. That's it. There wasn't any other exchange. It's all over with."

This has almost as much propaganda as Reefer Madness. Yes, I appreciated the reference.
I wouldn't look much past him trying to intimidate a young player and having it not work.

hes not even a good player. isnt it hilarious that people think hes having the best year in his career and ****? he sucks and always will. doesnt know how to play the game the right way, and he thinks hes a lot better than he actually is.

Rondo is the man, nothing effects this kid. He's gonna be dynamite in the playoffs.

Rafer is just a straight up gangsta. Skip To My Lou is just trying to do the same stuff he did when he was mixing it up on da streets.

I agree with this. I have no problem with Rafer trying to punk Rondo and try to set the tone for his team. If Rondo fell for it, that's on him. I'm just glad that it didn't work. I know Rafer's history, but I really don't think it was any more than that.

Actually, while I've never liked Rafer, he's been alright in Houston. Both Texas games have been nice and chippy, good basketball to watch all around, and good practice for when we (almost inevitably, got to disclaim so I don't jinx us) face Detroit in the playoffs. If Rafer is staying out of trouble off the court and being an instigator on the court he's not a bad point guard. Obviously with a 22 game win streak in their pocket, he's not hurting them. Either way, Rondo was up to the task, and as a second year point guard facing some of this now will be invaluable in the play-offs.
