Cav's say "very satisfied" to play Celts in 2nd Ro

Post#1 » by billfromBoston » Thu Mar 20, 2008 2:08 am

...just doing the Cavs/Det game and Ric Bucher on the sidelines said that LeBron and the Cavs are "very satisfied" with their current playoff positioning and would PREFER to play Boston before facing Detroit...said they like the match ups in that series, whatever that means...

...Personally, I think that Cleveland loses to a full-strength Wizards team in round one, but always good to hear the blowhards in Cleveland "liking their chances" in a series against Boston...

I'll tell you what I like...I like Cleveland's chances of never making it out of the first round with LeBron ever again...most overrated team since Iverson's 76ers title run team...

The way I see it, the Celtics, Pistons, Magic, and Wizards are better than the Cavs and will be consistently better for the next 3 years...Cleveland has no flexibility to add to their core, so i'm not seeing how they go on a title run again...

LeBron is the best player in the league IMO, hands down...I think he's much better all-around than Kobe and does more to help his team win...but that being said, I don't believe that one man and a crew of role players can defeat a team with superior defense AND superior offensive firepower...

...maybe against Detroit they can win a series because Detroit sometimes has trouble scoring and has no one to take over games for them consistently, but I still don't like Cleveland in a series against the Pistons this year either, and I think Boston is a cut above that and CERTAINLY has match up advantages galore against Cleveland..

...i hope we get these arrogant SOB's in the 2nd round and end "King James" and his BS Cavs reign in the East...cause I don't think they're every going back to the finals....James will....for the Brooklyn Nets...

I do not think the Magic or Wizards are better than the Cavs.

I certainly think we can beat the Cavs easily enough, but I'm reluctant to call a comment like this arrogant. If you have to beat the best anyway, to prefer to try and do it earlier rather than later and embrace the challenge - power to you.

And they do match up with us alright IMO, I'll give them that. Lebron vs PP, Lebron has an adantage at the offensive end and can be a handful defensively for PP too, although I have complete faith in PP. Ray Allen vs Pavlovic - Pavlovic is a good defender. KG/Perk versus Big Z / Ben Wallace - Big Z is a solid center and Ben Wallace is molded well to guard KG. And they have Varejao off the bench. Rondo will be absolutely key in any series versus Cleveland IMO.

I'm not sure about Washington, maybe if they're full strength, but Orlando is definately better than them. Better starting 5, more depth, much more dangerous. I'd rather play Clevland than Orlando.

I watched that Cavs/Pistons game, and Jon Barry has to be the worst commentator...a Piston homer doing a Nationally Televised game, it doesn't get much worse than that. They were acting like the Cavs were already in the ECF, talking about when they go through Boston then get to Detroit...ugh, brutal.

LOL....if thats what they want to do then go ahead, but I wouldn't want to motivate this group. We've already witnessed what these guys are capable of when they're hyped for a game (the last two Piston games and the Houston game come to mind) why would you want to give them anymore motivation?!?!?

Keep it coming Cavs we'll be ready just make sure you get there....

I hope the C's face them in the second round. I hope they are satisfied getting pounced out of the playoffs.

i think the magic and a fully healthy washington is better than cleveland, semi dpendent on how rusty arenas is.

areans/jamison/butler > wallace/LBJ/pavlovic

anyone > gibson

and wallace is past the point where either he or ilgauskas can handle howard

i would want cleveland-------we have 2 guys that will bother lebron besides pierce (pierce plays well against lebron).......allen/jp

the trade seemed brilliant at the time, but they are not much better------and they had miles to go before the trade

cleveland would be very lucky to win one game against us in the playoffs

Name your price, I'll take that action.

They have about $25 mil in expiring contracts next season. They have no long term contracts that extend past 2010. They still have have all their future 1st round picks and have young players in Gibson and Varejao who teams would covet if they decided to move them. After such a completely inaccurate statement, how can anybody take what you say seriously?

Okay, now I want Cleveland in round two. I'll be rooting for them to make it that far. And please, let them keep talking. I firmly believe that the best thing for the C's is to play someone who really pisses them off.

Fuel for the fire.

Bill is just like any other poster and he happens to hate and underate your team. It's not going to shatter our ability to take anything he says seriously because he doesn't like the Cavs.

Just to realize where the source is coming from.

Also this was said by Jon? Honestly it's no big deal. First off it's a commentary guy, secondly wtf are they suppose to say? Yeah we're real disapointed not beign the third seed now that we can't get to it, and yeah after getting to the NBA Finals last year we realize were a fluke?

No, you say you're confident in your abilities to beat anyone and would love to face the best available and beat them because in the end your the best.. that's why your the EC champions.

The Cavs helped themselfs a lot with that trade. West/Wallace=Gooden production and Wally coming off that year means with Wally + Snow in expirings NO contract is out of their reach for straight up swap. Gasol was thrown away for expirings who knowes who will be next, they might sign a lucrative young free agent in a sign and trade with those expirings [Josh Smith/Calderon]

LOL what do you want Cleveland to say? "We're scared of Boston. We want no part of them."

It seems like an automatic lock that if the Cavs get out of the first round they would have to face Boston. With that inevitability there's no harm in saying they prefer Boston. It sounds like a bold statement doesn't it, but in reality they have no choice, it is going to be Boston so its not a bold statement at all. There's also no love lost between the two clubs. There's always a ton of trash talking when they play. We all know about the Pierce vs. LeBron situation.

I'm a Cleveland fan, but I'm also a NBA fan. I'm not stupid. Boston is in a league of their own with respect to the East. Detroit doesn't have enough athleticism to handle them and there's really no other team out there that can even hope to touch Boston. I know Boston is better, but if the Cavs are going to have to play them then let's do it and see what happens. No need to shy away from it. Detroit was/is a better team than Cleveland, but two seasons ago they lost 3 games in a row in the playoffs to Cleveland and last year they lost 4 games in a row in the playoffs to Cleveland.

I know Boston is far superior better balanced than Detroit, but Cleveland, actually LeBron, has shown the ability to play up to the level of superior talent. So even if Boston were to win it might not be as easy as you think.

I'm worried about the first round at this point though. Philly right now is a much better team than Cleveland and if the post-season were to start right now I think Philly would win in 5. That's how much I'm impressed with them. Washington is an unknown right now. They would play the Cavs tough, but I don't think they would win. Toronto is a really soft team. I don't think they are tough enough to challenge the Cavs.

So right now I'm worried about Philly and Washington and hanging on to homecourt, not Boston. If the Cavs and Celts meet up, let's bring it on. The Celts obviously have a far superior team, but for at least 45 minutes the Cavs obviously have the best player on the court.

I don't think Cleveland will be easy to beat in a series just because of the LBJ factor but what is their problem with the C's. First LBJ came out and said that we had to beat (we did) them and now this. They won the first game by Ray Allen missing 2 ft at the end (won't happen to many times). The second game they won KG was not playing and the C's still gave them a comp until the very end so I don't get why they like the match-up much better than Detroit, a team that only has an advantage in playoff experience. Cleveland has some type of issue with our C's.

just from being a fan of a team who has been as under the spotlight of any team in recent years (the pats) i know the only right answer is the arbitrary answer: "were ready for whoever we have to play"

i dont think the cavs should say theyre afraid, but you cant incite any reaction when you dont mention anyone's name

It would be a great series. Boston and Cleveland split during the regular season. KG missed one game but remember that LeBron missed a game as well.

Detroit and Boston, to me, are the same. I would rather play Detroit just because we have a little rivalry going but I think both of you guys are about the same. I like Cleveland's chances because they can defend and rebound. I will also take LeBron and the next 2 on Cleveland over your big-3 with 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter so Cleveland just has to defend and rebound enough to keep the game close. LeBron can then take it over from there.
