Celtics waive center Scot Pollard

The Boston Celtics have requested waivers on center Scot Pollard, Celtics President Danny Ainge announced today. Pollard, who signed with the Celtics on August 9th, 2007, played in 22 games this season, averaging 1.8 points and 1.7 rebounds.

The Celtics are expected to sign forward Ruben Patterson for the remainder of the season.

Patterson has appeared in 20 games for the Clippers in 2007-08 before being waived on December 9th. He averaged 5.1 points and 3.2 assists this season with Los Angeles.

I wonder if they feel they need a defensive stopper for the playoffs? He would be eligible right? Not sure how I feel about signing a sex offender.

Aah, Kobe Stopper... always nice to have a nutcase on your team.

For your entertainment, from wikipedia:

He nicknamed himself the "Kobe Stopper" after claiming he could play strong defense against NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, but has long since disowned the nickname.

Often outspoken and erratic, Patterson was temporarily suspended from the Trail Blazers in the 2005-2006 season for speaking harshly at coach Nate McMillan and refusing to return to a game, upset about his lack of playing time. Patterson later explained his outburst, saying he was frustrated and it was "like the devil hit me and told me to get it out".[1] He also demanded that he get at least 25 minutes per game or be traded. In February 2006, Patterson was traded to the Denver Nuggets.

EDIT:

Oh birdman, when will you stop. That's a pretty mellow one though - nothing that could give anyone a heart attack. Replace Pollard with Posey in the story and I'll start sweating.

i swear, DA believes in nothing. Before DA, the Celtics, as an organization, had some values. This is the team that de-segregated professional basketball!! Bill Russel his a figure in U.S. social history. Before DA, the Celtics didn't draft high schoolers. they didn't objectify women and have cheerleaders (who suck by the way, they suck soooo much). they certainly didn't have sex offenders on their team.

Why would anyone want this Patterson on their team? From his wikipedia page:

Patterson has been involved in a number of off-the-court issues during his basketball career. Patterson would have to register himself as a sex offender to establish legal residency in many U.S. states, due to pleading guilty in 2001 to attempted rape of his child's nanny in September 2000.[4] It was reported that he forced the nanny to perform a sex act on him.[4][5] In February 2001, Patterson was convicted of misdemeanor assault for attacking a man who scratched his car outside a Cleveland, Ohio night club. Patterson was arrested in 2002 for felony domestic abuse charges on his wife. His wife later dropped the charges and they divorced.

He was accused of failing to register as a sex offender on May 15, 2007 after moving into a new house in Cincinnati and a bench warrant was issued.[6] His agent, former NFL player Tim McGee, said Patterson's failure to register was "an oversight" after Patterson was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine on June 8. Also on January 3rd 2008 he was waived by the Los Angeles Clippers.

**** Ainge. If he signs Patterson, there is nothing he can do to redeem himself, in my eyes. DA believes in nothing. For him if it works you do it.

DA comes in starts drafting high school students. He defies Red Auerbach's long standing prohibition of cheerleaders. He trades away one of two franchise players for no reason other than to assert his dominance over the organization. For Walker he got a guy who is out the league and an terrible, injured white guy with an albatross contract. Then, he had to give up a good pick that could have been Brandon Roy to cover his ass and recoup his loses. He had to do the same thing with the Blount signing.

Granted DA drafted very, very well and got himself into a position to get the KG trade but i think people forget the luck he had. i have seen a lot of posters says he had to make the Telfair trade becuase the Ratliff contract was essential to the KG trade. Hindsight is 20/20 and really doubt DA thought to himself well, "i'll trade Walker for crap, destroy a winning team, get a good draft pick trade crap i got for walker for crap that expires sooner and i'll use that contract to balance out the salaries and make a trade for a superstar using the expiring contract and rookies."

I think the reality is that DA hated Walker and thought he could build around Pierce, get some good players through the draft, and be contender in 2-4 years. His vision was shattered when Pierce went down last year and he realized that vets when games.

**** DA. If he signs a sex offender, I hope the team gets knocked out in the first round and he gets fired.[/quote]

Still fighting this long ago lost battle. Danny saw that the team he inherited was a lower tier playoff team with no upside (or as you view it, "a winning team"). Thank god he didn't think that he could squeeze a championship by tinkering around the edges of that mediocre bunch.

Danny was always about building value, even if that meant some of the players he had on the team were too young to win immediately, but they clearly had more value than the crew he inherited.

He saw that the inherited team had to be taken apart. The chips he had didn't have much value, and his cap position was not favorable either. Why some people thought he could come in and transform that mediocrity with no upside into a championship contender in 2 years is a mystery.

It's a lost battle. Let it go. Be glad you have the GM of the year.

say what you will but i still think DA is jerk and, no matter how good this team is, i still think he sucks for getting cheerleaders and trading walker.
