Marc Spears is reporting Tom is being considering for the Bulls head coaching job next season.

Celtics assistant Tom Thibodeau has been rumored as a candidate for the Bulls' coaching job. "I don't get into that," said Rivers. "It's the middle of the season. I'm not commenting or talking about that. I want [all my assistants] to get [head] jobs. And they all deserve them. But that's all I'm going to say on that."

Well, Thibodeau is a great coach and deserves head coaching considerations.

Well, I hope he'll be here for another two years, but it was highly unlikely right from the beginning. He has a reputation too good to be assistant coach.

   About time. That would not be an awful situation to be in, assuming they resign Deng. Thibodeau deserves his shot.

i think hes going to the knicks.

It has already been speculated that if Walsh joins the Knicks he could bring in former Sixers GM Billy King to be the GM and possibily Mark Jackson, Scott Skiles or Celtics assistant coach Tom Thibodeau to coach the team.

Hell. When we were talking about replacements for Doc last season Thib was one of my top choices. Maybe it's just no one saw him behind Van Gundy's shadow but it amazes me that he hasn't gotten a chance this long.

Good for Thib, he deserves a shot. If I were him I'd prefer the Bulls, the Knicks are going to have to dig out of a big salary cap mess to bring in some real talent. Assuming of course the Bulls keep their core.

Thib is great but I'd rather have Doc coach this team. This team needs less of a coach than a manager. I'm sure the schemes Thib put in (which were really Doc's schemes anyway) can be continued. With KG here I'm not worried about maintaining the intensity.

The Celtics were very fortunate to get Thibodeau in the first place, after that bizarre short stay with the Wizards. Much like I was worried when Dick Harter left the Celtics a few years back, I have my concerns if Thibodeau leaves and while I know the Celtics would not stand in his way, why not try to lock him up at starting head coach money to stay aboard? I realize his contract was deliberately made to be only one year to keep his options to head coaching open.
My concerns stem from the fact that the Celtics were about as bad as you could be during Rivers' regime. If they slip - even a bit - it is impossible to find somebody to fix it.
I understand that the talent and mentality are in place, but Thibodeau's track record of great defensive teams is no accident. This would be a significant loss IMO.

There's a lot of excitement over on the Bulls board about this. I was going to come here and start a thread asking what you guys thought about him, but you all seem to like/respect him.

I hope he stays...we need D the way we've had it this year if we intend to be contenders for the next 3 years, although with the personnel we have, it might be OK

He would be a good coach but he isn't going to be any different than the two other guys that roster just quit on.

The Celtics are a better defensive team because they play better defenders. This team traded away 3 or 4 of the worst defensive players in the NBA and added two of the best, and expanded the roles of the two best they had. The Celts play better defense because the coach can demand they do and if they don't he actually has someone to sub in the game that can actually get the job done, they don't even have to scream about it anymore.

The Celtics have defenders that play in Tib's defense.

The Bulls have some players like that too.

IDK how much more of a personality of a head coach he is going to be over CHI's current coach.

But I know after this year that are vets don't need a babysitter, or someone to maximize their potential, or to help them through the mental challenges of the game.

My sig says it all about what I think should happen

I think Doc relates to the players just fine and does a good job as the head coach. Tib is awesome, obviously, and I hope he stays and wins a couple of rings with this team!!

i was thinking about what it would take for doc to get fired and thibodeau promoted early in the season. then we just kept the run for the whole season and we really look good going into the playoffs. i'm finding it hard to find any way to justify not giving doc too much credit to not have him back. how much credit do we think thibodeau should be getting for this season?

Bad news for us. I give TT tons of credit for turning around our defense.

Sign him to a long term deal Wyc!

I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The Doc/Tib unit is doing great things...keep them BOTH and let's go into next year with some stability, for once!

There is essentially no way Thib doesn't get a HC job this offseason. He wants one, he deserves one, he has a high profile, and there are a lot of teams in the market. No amount of $s is going to keep him here.
