I just saw this, not sure if it has been mentioned on here. To me he is easily one of the most knowledgeable and easy to listen to reporters in New England. I personally cant stand someone like Tanguay but would listen to Lobel talk about Boston sports all day. I feel like he is another Will McDonough.
CBS made some big mistakes here. I didnt even mention Joyce. I don't mind Burton by any means but he is no Bob Lobel. I remember meeting him at the first Patriots parade and being in awe of him.
Heres props for a true legend!

Lobel is so horrible that it's kind of funny. Is he an alcoholic? He just looks so confused on Fifth Quarter. Like nothing he says is coherent. Just awful stuff. I only have recollections of him the past 3-4 years. Was he better before?

Wow. He's been here for like forever.
To his credit he did break the story about hiring Pitino. Back when that was considered impossibly great luck (along with our surefire drafting of Tim Duncan).

Local news sportscasters in general are becoming obsolete. Why pay a guy that much money to do so little? I'm glad he's gone; I never really cared for him. Seemed like a pompous jerk to me.

He is an Alcoholic. I am glad he got fired, not because I wasn't a fan of his work, but now maybe he can clean himself up. Get well soon Bob.

My friends and family have always joked about him being a boozer, do people just think he is because of his behavior or some of you in the know? Always felt the same way about Remy until the new ownership group took over.
All that matters is Jack is back, couldn't handle getting my news from some snot nosed pany waist. That guy is right of central casting.

I was watching him not too long back on a Sunday. He was in the studio, his face was bright red, and his arm was in a sling. He was clearly bombed or on pain killers or both, and he's sitting right next to the news anchors. It was just ridiculous.
I said to myself, either this guy has a disease for which he's taking meds or he's an alcoholic.

him being an alcy is even a question??
if your ever at a big sox or pats game and you see him, just go say hi. hes a down to earth guy but youll be able to tell, CLEARLY, that hes wasted. how else would somebody get a honkah like that??
but in all, i was a fan. i though he was just a goofy normal guy. that interview with the 3 legends in 92 is like Boston folklore. and hes the reason that happened.
good luck Bob. i hope well see ya resurface, however strange it might be, on one of the bigdogs

"Hey aren't you Bob Lobel? And you're that guy from BayBank!"
Yeah, I remember coming home and watching local sportscasts with Lobel and pretty shocked how he was doing his job openly drunk. It was fairly blatant -- I'm surprised he lasted this long.

I'm sad to see him go. He was always my favorite among the network broadcasters. I miss the days when it was Jack Williams, Liz Walker, Bruce Schwoegler and Lobel.
Hopefully Lobel gets a spot on EEI or another radio station. Put him and Neumie together. Radio GOLD Jerry!

I always dug Lobel, especially on the radio, when I was a kid. Lately he seemed pretty curmudgeonly, but still, he was a Boston fixture. End of an era...

i dont get how, in this town especially, the local network sports coverage isnt promoted more. like thats all people seem to give a s*** about here most of the time anyways. just dedicate like 1/3 of the show to sports, theyd get some nice ratings imo.

I always thought Lobey was drunk and I thought it was hilarious!!! On Dennis and Callahan yesterday they were shooting down rumors that he's a drunk, who knows. Callahan did tell a great story about how after every Sports Final Lobel would go to the bar the guests like Buckley, Shaughnasey et al and buy them all a beer. He said that most of the time Lobel wouldn't even stay but he'd make sure they guys were taken care of.
During football season he and Burton did a weekend show a few times and Lobel would go on and on about stupid ****, it was so random it was really funny.

Well NECN, NESN and CSN all have half hour sports shows.

Yeah, cable kind of killed network sports, where you can have a whole **** channel DEVOTED to sports and not just 8 minutes on the nightly newscast.
