Cassell: I will be back here next year

"I am going to play next year, right here," Cassell said. "As long as Doc is running this ship, I ain't going nowhere."
When asked why he is confident Boston will re-sign him, Cassell said, "If they can find a better backup point guard than me, I'd like to see it."
Cassell has been living in Boston with Garnett, who joked that Cassell is getting on his nerves.
"I see him every day," said Garnett. "It's nerve-wracking, I'll be honest with ya'll. It's not a good thing.
"If you guys have a place for him, if ya'll want to take him off my hands, be my guest. You got to cook, you got to clean, got to iron his clothes, carry his bag because he has a bad back. [It's] killing me. So if any of ya'll want to house Sam Cassell, be free to do that."

I love having Sam on this team. On and off the court! Maybe not as much as conditioning coach Brian Doo but still...

All I hear is positive things about Doc as coach.
It must be because he's so easy going and relates to the players.

You'll still hear loads of people on here hating Doc for this and that, even though none of his players say anything bad about him.
What can you do?

I agree with Sam. Other than Pargo (who is will be a free agent), there really isn't any free agent backup point guards that I would want on this team over Sam.

Players and fans look for different things when evaluating a coach.

We should all want him back next year for the same reasons we all wanted him to come this year. This is good news.
As for Doc, I've been saying all along that:
Strengths include that the players REALLY like him.
Weaknesses include that he's not the best teacher of young players.
I haven't seen much evidence to contradict either part of that.

How exactly is he not good at teaching young players? Perk, Rondo, and Powe have all improved this season. Davis has done reasonably well. Allen has struggled physically but he is much more undercontrol than in the past.
What young players have left Boston and blossomed? Been more than what they were here? None.
The only question out on Doc Rivers is what happens comes playoff time?

Yea, I don't see where Doc has failed in teaching young players. Look at the improvement of Rondo under Doc. What about Leon Powe, Glen Davis, Perk, etc?
You can't just all of a sudden teach the Sebastian Telfairs of the world not to suck.

The players openly displayed discomfort and Pierce was having on court ignorings of Doc's orders after Jim Obrien left.
Even last year we hear the game winning play against the Nets. Were Pierce told Jefferson "**** Doc, I'm giving you the ball" and they made that nice little alley-op esque play.
The players might like Doc, but Pierce certainly doesn't really respect him as a coach. And everyone on this board seems to hate Jim Obrien but the players really respected him.
Even Blount seemed to like the team when Obrien was coach.

Guys who've learned well under Doc: Rondo, a bunch of bigs.
Guys who haven't learned well under Doc: All the other perimeter players.
