possibility of KG=dpoy, Rajon=MIP, & doc=COY?

Post#1 » by kmgarnett21 » Mon Apr 14, 2008 7:10 pm

whats the probability that KG wins defensive player of the year (or mvp) (which he should), rondo wins most improved player of the year, & doc wins coach of the year?

whats the most likely to happen?

of course, NONE of this would matter if we didnt win a championship. i'm sure all the players would give up any/every individual award for the title, but this is all jus fun talk til the playoffs get here.

Enormous longshot. 1000-1?

KG for MVP is, like, 15-to-1.
Rondo for MIP is the longest shot, 200-to-1 or something.
Doc for COY is probably 10-to-1 or something.

All together, that's really really unlikely.

These have to happen, or the NBA will still be a huge joke, and I wouldn't be surprised if we get screwed out of all 3 awards, since we're hated because of superiority.

I think KG has a shot at MVP, but won't get it. Probably 2nd or 3rd in line after Kobe and LBJ. I think he can get DPOY though. I think Doc should get coach of the year, with us having far and away the best record. I think Rondo is the weak link here. I think Turk from Orlando will get the MIP.

Id like all these to happen but think Scott gets COY over Doc, and as you said Turk gets MIP over Rondo

WTF?

Rondo has definitely improved a lot, but he's probably not even a top 10 MIP candidate in most voters' minds. KG will get some 1st place votes for MVP, but there's just too much of an avalanche of hype for Kobe/LeBron/Paul for him to overcome. Doc...I mean, whatever, I don't think he's a good coach, I think the players and Thibodeau are responsible for the team's success, I think we've won despite Doc, but because of the team record he'll get a lot of votes and probably finish in the top 3. Not winning any of these awards won't mean crap. Meanwhile, if DPOY is in the conversation, then KG is the overwhelming favorite to win it.

Rondo would have to be a lot better player overall to win MIP.

Maybe if he made the same improvements next year with the mid range shot becoming that corner 3.

I think it may be a matter of settling for Ainge as executive of the year, which can hardly be denied.
KG isn't unlikely for defensive player of the year --- he earned it --- but there are a couple of other guys who were also pretty amazing, and Camby's stats were better than last year's when he got it.
Rajon is my favorite player in the league, but I think Turkoglu has zoomed from being on no one's radar at the beginning of the year to being on pretty well everyone's by now, so he probably has this one sewed up.

No, if there is a lock for any of the awards, it's KG for DPOY.
If he doesn't win that, I'll never pay attention to NBA awards again.
However, by all accounts KG is a slam dunk for it. Not even close.

the slam dunks are the MIP - lol at hedo being embarrassed if he got it and the exec and dpoy look locked with ainge and garnett

the rookie award should go to kevin durant since the voters like big offensive numbers, but horford from altanta could tie durant.
the kid is a punk for almost killing tj ford, but he's a talented punk.

the mvp is going down to the wire. but its making it easier for kobe since the hornets are falling fast.

COY is down to doc or scott. as a hornet fan, i dislike scott as a coach.
i don't know if he actually coaches. this is the dumbest award. its a players league. if you have a talented team, then it will succeed.

Isn't Hedo too old for the MIP? Doesn't it have to to be a up and coming star (ie Rudy Gay) not someone who it took 7 years to do what he did

too old? he's like 28 right?

you can't always give it to the second year player because thats when most high draft picks get it together and start games.

it also goes to guys on winning teams a lot. this year there are candidates on a lot of winning teams. making it harder for rudy.

btw houston messed up giving him up.

Well that is excellent news.
I guess I've been led down the garden path a little ways by the announcers on the NBA Daily show, who are probably trying to make a race where there is none, just to pretend it's more exciting and suspenseful.
KG absolutely deserves it. It will be one more thing to cheer about.

I think it's probable that either Chris Paul or Kobe Bryant will win league MVP, Byron Scott or Stan Van Gundy could be the choices for head coach of the year and LaMarcus Aldridge could be a choice for most improved player of the year.

I can see Kevin Garnett as the choice for defensive player of the year. Defense was the one thing about Garnett that wasn't affected by playing with Pierce and (Ray) Allen or missing some games this season to an injury. Conversely, those things will work against him for league MVP. My vote is for Garnett but I'm not a member of the voting committee. The MVP should come out of Boston, in my opinion. Garnett or Pierce winning the award is fine by me.

What he said!

We win #17, it doesn't matter who the individual awards go to, doesn't matter one little bit.

The only one I really expect is KG to win DPOY. If he doesn't win it, the voters just didn't watch the basketball season. Myself personally wouldn't have voted for Rondo or Doc. Actually I neither would be in my top three to be honest.

I think KG is a lock for MVP. Don't listen to the media hype, thats all it is hype. The same writers who are hyping up Kobe and LeBron(who has no chance of MVP until the Cavs are top2east) are the guys who will vote for KG. The media is only objective when it comes time to vote, until then its all about making headlines.
