Fave 5

Post#1 » by Ricky_is_god » Mon Apr 14, 2008 10:42 pm

Much in the fashion of those great T Mobile Commercials with Charles and Wade, this is a Fave 5 Thread, for draft prospects. I thought it would be less fun looking forward to the draft from the back end of the first round, but I think I'm finding it more fun. Instead of absolutely needing the guy we draft to pan out, or its over this player can just be good, which allows us to pick more low ceiling players, which opens up a lot of good options at 30. Here are my fave 5 picks, and I'm limiting to guys who should be available, and if they're not should have gone in the five picks previous. In no particular order:

-Mario Chalmers- People might think this is in reaction to his strong final four, but he was actually the reason I picked Kansas to win the whole tournament in my bracket. I think Chalmers is good enough defensivley to have little drop off when he subs in for Rondo. Is big enough to be an effective defender on the bigger guards. And his jump shot would be a nice change of pace for Rondo. He can run and pass like Rondo, but his shooting is better. He'd be a good one to punch with Rondo for ten years.

-Bill Walker- I just think the kid is a beast. He can jump out of the building, and is strong enough to take guys down on the low blocks. He needs work on his jump shot, but if Desmond Mason can succeed in the pros for as long as he has, than Bill Walker should be able to as well. I think he would be good off the bench as a scorer on the low block.

-Joey Dorsey- Is there any reason e can't be what Jason Maxiell is to the Pistons. Absolute nearly unreachable best case for Joey is Ben Wallace. But he is a high flyer, and can play C defensivley on the next level and be a strong athletic force in the front court. No big men we have besides KG are as explosive as Dorsey.

-J.J. Hickson- I've seen a good amount of Hickson because I go to school in ACC country. He has excellent leaping ability, and good size at almost 6'10". He is a guy who should have stayed in school, and if we pick him up I think he is one a rare guys you can get at the end of the first round who has a lot of potential.

Finally, a sleeper.

-James Gist- This is almost a complete homer pick because I go to University of Maryland, but I really think he is a guy who can be better in the pros than he was in college. He is a bit of a 3/4 tweener as he came into school as a 4, but has developed a pretty nice drive game, and now has a decent jump shot out to college three. His shot has improved considerably during his time in College Park. I used to cringe when he shot any shot, now I cheer for him to shoot the three. He is probably the best run and jump athlete you'll find out of the top picks, and has the ability to make a difference as a weak side defender. Powe and Baby play pretty decent on ball defense, but neither of them is a weak side shot blocker. He would be a good addition to this team as he doesn't need the ball to be effective, likes to play defense and get blocks, and always brings intensity.

Anywho, it might be too early for a draft thread, but these last few weeks of meaningless games has been kind of boring. Let me know what you think, and who your fave 5 are. Remember to keep it possible, I know I'm going to see a lot of Rush's, but lets be honest, he probably won't make it past 25.

Giddens and Hendrix were the last two cuts in my top five. I'd be stoked with either of those guys either.

I like Sonny Weems a lot for some reason. Courtney Lee, Tyler Smith, Nikola Pekovic, and Dick Hendrix, too.

Why does every mock have these guys and Bill Walker in the second round? It's crazy. Tyler Smith is like a top-8 pick and DraftExpress lists him at 33.

I have this weird feeling about Rush being a good player. Even though every time I've seen him he doesn't really impress at all.
