I like it. I always thought he looked like the Alien from the movie Aliens though.

They just said it a few minutes ago on PTI. You can't just name yourself like that though or it is lame like Kobe trying to call himself Black Mamba.

The Cobra is chill, but The Savior is more fitting.
How do you guys feel about Black Jesus for a nickname?

You can't give yourself a nickname, no matter how good you are.

I thought the Big Aristotle was the nickname he gave himself.
Think about it -- who ELSE would call him that?

Yeah, and "Cobra" is lame. I saw that over at RedsArmy.com. Cobra? Getting on all fours and acting like a wolf or something is a
cobra? Really.

So who DOES nickname people?
We all know who gave The Truth his nickname, of course. (Uh, do we?

)
But who first nicknamed The Answer?
Are there any other nicknames out there so non-obvious there must be a clearly identifiable bestower? E.g., I don't think any of The Alien, King James, or The Big Fundamental apply.
For that matter -- I've forgotten who first named Big Chief Triangle, although I think it was a rival coach.

Shaq has given himself tons of nicknames. He's shaqzilla, the big cactus, the big aristotle, superman, diesel, shaquino(as in the curse of the shaquino), the shaq attack, the man of steel, the showman of big men, Wilt Chamberneezy(Kobe's name for him), The big barishnikov, the 8th wonder, and M.D.E (most dominant ever.) Those are the only ones I know. I don't think you can ever have too many nicknames, so far Kg has The Kid, Big Ticket, and now "The Cobra." I wish ray allen had more nicknames. Maybe KG should pick one out for him.

Often times sports writers give players nicknames. Other nicknames come from the guy's youth (ex. Pacman Jones). Other times it is teammates early in his career.
Guys giving themselves nicknames probably started with Deion "Prime Time" Sanders.

Nice nickname and LOL at a crybabies here.
It's doesn't matter who gave you your nickname: yourself, your momma or w/e. All that matters is if it's sticks or not.

I don't like
The Cobra as a nickname as it somewhat makes me think of The Karate Kid. I prefer Garnett to adopt the nickname, "Don't Call Me A Seven-footer." It'll be too long to cite but it's more fitting to say... Maybe shorten it to say, "7Up." I like this better as the colors green and yellow are the Boston Celtics' colors.
Yo, Garnett! Call me seven-up, dawg.

I could have sworn that Black Jesus is Ray Allen. (as in Jesus Shuttlesworth)
