Do players ever learn? How has this trash talking worked out for the Wizards. I hope the Garden is relentless on Wednesday with this punk.

LIGHT THE FIRE!

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

BOSTON - Leave it up to Hawks point guard Mike Bibby to light the fire with the Boston fans.

Bibby lit into the Celtics

Meh who cares? We know who have been supporting the C's and who hasn't. Their are fairweather fans everywhere.

I used to get all pissed about bandwagon fans but I don't care as much. I understand the casual fan. I understand the fan that used to watch but gave up when we sucked. The people that piss me off are the people that claim that they've watched every game forever and then when you ask them a fairly easy question and they become clueless. It's fun calling these people out. :)

I don't really care but I do hope that he hears it even more tomorrow night.

In fact, I enjoy these little extra storylines. Especially in a series where the outcome is inevitable..

hes 100% right, I remember one of the news stations going around the Garden in Nov asking people to name a player excluding the BIg 3 and about 15 people couldnt. I bet 90% of the people who went to the game Sunday didnt watch a game last season.

Thats not even fair. If you want to pay good money for seats, at least know the team.

First of all, has anyone ever told you not to believe everything they show on the news?? You know they can manipulate the footage to show whatever they want.

Second, you are really underestimating Boston fans. Everyone certainly knew to get a "we want Baby" chant with about 5 minutes left.

Thats obsurd! You really think 90% of the people there didnt even watch a game on TV last season?

This board is def not representative of most celtic fans (i.e. we are hardcore, most arent), but there are 82 games in a season, to think that even a casual fan wouldnt tune in to 1 out of 82 games last year while flipping through the channels is nuts.

These 90% you are talking about would basically have to go from ignoring the celtics on purpose last year, to proactively anticipating when playoff tickets go on sale and paying good $$$ for them.

I was at the game with 3 other people all of which watched a decent portion of last years season (if not all of it).

The 90% number just jumped out at me as ridiculous, but the main point that there are a lot of bandwagon jumpers is pretty tough to argue against, but who cares really?

So basically what Bibby is saying is that now that our business put a better product on the floor that it has more customers? Okay...makes sense to me...very astute Mr. Bibby.

I think what Bibby is really trying to say is:

"I played awful. I shot 2-10 and was scooled by a 2nd year PG that I used to mentor. Quite frankly, it was embarassing. When I was walking off the floor a few Celtic fans were heckling me. It really hurt, man. I was like, what can I do to bother them considering my play is only bothering my teammates, coaches, the city of Atlanta, and anyone who watches basketball? I know! I'll call them bandwagon fans in the paper just to piss them off!!!!

As a follow-up thought, any team that turns around their fortune and becomes good gets new fans (or bandwagon jumpers if you must).

If the hawks were any good this year and didnt back their way into the playoffs they'd have some too.

Too bad for the hawks that there's got to be a bandwagon in order to jump aboard.

Yes I agree dont believe everything you see on the news but if you go to a game this season you see people coming in halfway through the first or even after the first, and what I couldnt stand the most people wanting Scal in the game the first half of the season

Whatever. Any good team will have bandwagon jumpers. But if you can keep their attention, they become die-hard fans. You gotta start somewhere.

This is probably just Bibby's way of making the media not forget that the Hawks are actually in the playoffs. There won't be much of anything noteworthy on the floor, so he might as well get a couple jabs in the paper.

Ok it was a bit of a bad statement lol, the whole "bandwagon" thing just upsets me though but I guess it goes along with winning and Id rather be winning with bandwagon jumpers than losing without them

I agree too. And with two Ricky Davis fans I assume? Yuck!! HAHA..JK

I went to about 30 games last year because it was so easy to get a ticket. This year? I went to 10 and spent more than last year. Oh well, the price you pay for winning I guess...

Someone should also tell Bibby that last season the Celtics still had better attendance records that the Hawks.

Dizzy, you said it right. That's just the way it is.

Who knows, maybe him crapping on fans is how he gets himself pumped for the next game.

This is Bibby's way to make people pay attention to his words instead of his performance. If they paid attention to his performance then people would puke.

I have been on record as saying Bibby is one of the most overrated and overpaid players in the game. It make me think of all those stupid Bibby to Boston trades from a year ago. Thank goodness Ainge has common sense.

Bibby is garbage.

I brought up this same point in the game 1 thread a few days ago.
