Sam Bleeping Cassell

One of the biggest reasons we've been so bad in the last 2 games is Sam Bleeping Cassell. He comes into the game and completely kills whatever offensive flow we have and as soon as he leaves, we go on a run.

I wonder why... The guy can't guard a chair to save his life and while he's in there, no one but him touches the damn ball on offense. And no one is moving because no one thinks he is getting the ball. That's how you make a bad defensive team look like the Spurs. If you want to beat a team like the Hawks, extremely athletic, but short on experience, you gotta beat them with passing because they can't rotate quickly enough. But what does Sam the crap do? Pulls up for shots on every occasion, whether it be off a pick and not roll or just a ridiculous 1-on-5 pull up with a man in his face.

And at the expense of giving this old piece of trash PT, we are rotting Tony Allen, our best wing defender who can matchup against their PG or Joe Johnson, on the bench. Even Eddie House, who's known strictly as a shooter played a much better PG than Sam I ain't.

Yes, Sam can handle the ball against pressure, but what good does it do when he never passes and launches garbage shot after shot. Even if he makes a few, it still kills our offensive flow because no one is moving.

If Doc can't figure that out, he must be fired immediately. Otherwise, we're going home very soon.

I agree, Sam is killing us. Last night was the absolute nadir...he killed us with his contested 3-pointers in transition. He admitted himself to a sideline reporter during game 2 that he doesn't even try on D...thus, if he isn't hitting all of his shots, he's useless.

More House/Allen, less Sam. I don't care that he's a vet with 2 rings, blah blah, let him earn his PT back like anyone else.

I was a big supporter of getting Sam...

But I agree 100%. He's taking bad shots, he's not distributing and he does nothing to set up the offense. It's so frustrating seeing him dribble down the court and then just chuck up a bad shot without working any of the clock and looking to set up his teammates.

At this point, they have to deactivate Cassell because he's hurting the team more than a backup PG should be able to. His ego is getting in the way of team success.

I too was excited when they got him and he looked good heading into the playoffs.

He's killing us now, though.

Unless Cassell finishes the playoffs with some heroic perforances that will get us the Championship, I don't see hi being re-signed, even though he said he wants to be here.

Even when he was looking good, he was totally controlling the ball on the offensive side, doing the volume shooter thing.

I agree. Sam is there for insurance, period. Run the old rotations (that happened to work pretty well) and get the TEAM going again.

Bring back Eddie and Tony with Posey, as Pollard said, "bing, bang, boom, ....basket!

Oh, please, we didn`t lose the game yesterday because of Cassell. He played 6 minutes.

Everybody played poorly in the last two games. KG has been our best player and he is being criticized the most. It is time for Ray and Pierce to step up and show their real games, they are the ones who can cost us a win not rotation players like Cassel or Powe...

I agree Sam has been terrible but he is not the main reason we are losing games.

Sadly, I agree with the sentiments in this thread. I was so excited to get Sam and now he's screwing us. Anyone remember Heinson warning the Celtics about Cassell ruining the chemistry? He didn't wan the Celtics to sign Cassell. Turns out he was right. :banghead:

Sam's play has been comical as a Celtic, aside from the Spurs game. He really needs to lose the ego, pass the basketball, run the offense and not have the ridiculous shot selection he has had as a Celtic. He kills our offense any time he is in there.

Coming from a big Sam fan, his play has been incredibly selfish and very disappointing with the Celtics.

I'd like to see Doc say something to him about his play and give him one more chance to turn it around. If he doesn't, he needs to be completely removed from the rotation.

I knew this was going to happen, which was why I wasn't that excited about Sam coming here from the beginning.

Resign him? Please. I want him gone right now.

It was everyone from the team that lost the game.. basketball is a team game so I don't see the need to blame just one person..

If Cassell let's say made a game-winning three pointer in this series, would you still say have him resign? Just my two cents.. but this is not the reason we lost

So we shouldn't discuss the play of our players on a board where we all come to talk basketball?

What should be done then...make post after post saying "nice effort guys, it's ok as long as you do your best and have a fun time doing it"?

edit: Just saw your newest post and no one is blaming 1 player. Look around, there are threads discussing the play of every Celtic and the coaching performance of Doc. Sam isn't the only one not playing up to par, he's just the one who is going to be most criticized in a Sam Cassell thread when he is playing selfish, horrible basketball.

He won't make a game-winning three pointer because he shouldn't be the one taking it. He's a backup PG. If we have to rely on our backup PG to save us, we're not winning anything.

And that game-winning shot has to come from within the offense, not out of ego, which is where all these garbage shots are coming from.

Now go do your homework.

No, i think his comments were valid.. but to the point that he wanted Cassell to go ASAP? And to think he was able to instigate a run after a bad play... come to think of it, maybe we did need Sam to suck so the others could sense the urgency to make a run.

this was an all around losing effort. to blame cassel is pretty silly. powe and baby have been utterly terrible, pierce and ray werent sharing the ball. Perk cant make a layup.
on defence, ray has been a disaster.
rondo and KG are the only 2 to show up for the series.
although KG is scared to take a shot down low. SCARED.... of the hawks...umm...

to lose 2 games in a row to "the worst team in the history of the nba playoffs" is a disgrace.

Hm... that's a very optimistic view of things. Maybe you are right. But can we agree that we don't need Sam to flush more games down the toilet for us to sense urgency? He needs to be deactivated immediately. I rather see Scal waving the towel in uniform than give Doc the temptation to put Cassell in the game.

Why would you say that? That's funny... you already knew he wasn't going to make the shot because he wasn't supposed to?? :D

He has the experience and the coach lets him play key minutes in the 4th... I did see some bad plays from him, but it doesn't merit him being cut... he hasn't even completed one season with us
