BOSTON -- Just in case you're wondering how many pallet loads of pressure Kevin Garnett has on his Mass Pike-wide shoulders, turn to Page 5 of Sunday's Boston Globe sports section.

Buried deep, deep in his column, Globe resident hard-ass Dan Shaughnessy issued KG a chilling reminder of what happens if the best player on the best team in the NBA can't beat the worst team in the playoffs.

Wrote Shaughnessy: "As for Garnett, I have only two words of warning: Alex Rodriguez."

A-Rod? Did he really invoke the name of the ringless New York Yankees third baseman whose bat has a habit of appearing on the back of milk cartons during the postseason?

It wasn't personal; it was business. Shaughnessy, who has covered more Celtics games than there are parquet slats at the Garden, had it right about Garnett.

The big three is really the big one. Garnett would never say it (in fact, he goes out of his way never to say it), but Paul Pierce and Ray Allen aren't going to lead the Celtics to their own Duck Boat parade. They'll help -- a lot -- but Garnett is the guy.

I sorry but articles like this one really disgust me. Seems like most of these guys are focusing on KG's legacy and his quest to get ring. This guy totally disrespected Pierce and Ray.

Dan Shamelessly needs to feel relevant so these types of things inevitably come out of his word processor.

Shaugnessy is a hack and an monkey. Why would anyone even read, let along believe, what he says?

KG is an A level Star
Pierce and Allen are B level stars

Lets face it, it really is upto KG to win us a ring, if Pierce has a bad game we can still pull out a win, if Ray keeps having bad games we can still manage to win, But if KG has a bad game we prob wont win. Ive been a huge PP fan my whole life but even I understand if we win a championship the main reason will be Kevin Garnett

I don't think that's true. I think as long as 2 of the Big 3 play well in a game we can win. When Paul and Ray both played like crap we lost to Atlanta in the 1st round.

I think it's been the complete opposite this year. Look at game 3 for example; KG had a great game and we lost. Our record when Pierce goes over 20 is crazy.

For the record Dan Shaugnessy didn't write that. Some other monkey behind a type writer over at ESPN did.

Well I agree but if KG doesnt play well then we will lose a playoff game in my mind. We also need KG to take off his dress in close 4th quarters and start playing like a man

I do agree sometimes KG is too unselfish in crunch time, but there's a difference between that and being afraid and I'm not so sure KG is afraid, per se...

I think we have found out during this season that it is more like as Pierce goes so does the celtics offense...Defensively of course KG is the man but offensively Pierce is the one who can carry us.

True. Seems that way with his attitude, too..when his head's not in it, the whole team gets a little goofy sometimes.

The CHB wasn't out of line. The ESPN exaggeration, however, was over the top.

As for KG's shot selection -- HE'S NOT THAT GOOD A SHOOTER, unless he's standing alone with no opponent within 7 feet. He doesn't need Walter McCarty solitude to shoot; while he's not great on contested shots, he's also not a catastrophe on them. But don't assume those decisions he's making to pass up shots are all bad ones.

For me, the Boston Celtics are still about the captain, Paul Pierce, and how best (Ray) Allen and Garnett and their teammates will complement one another en route to their ultimate goal of winning the NBA championship this season or in the foreseeable future. In my opinion, it begins with Pierce... Not Garnett. Pierce won't disappear in the fourth quarter and isn't afraid to carry the team offensively in the fourth quart nor will he shy away from attempting a game winning shot or pass to a teammate to do the same. Where the Celtics need Garnett is on the defensive end as he has been doing, thus far as a Celtic. But, I've had about enough of this being Garnett's team and he's that much important than fellow All-Star teammates or the team itself. They'll need each other and the coaching staff to succeed. It isn't about one individual player. The media needs to refrain from implying that one player makes the difference in Boston. Yes, he does... But, like LeBron James, that one player will take you so far before you realize that he isn't enough. The team has to do it. Win it. Together as a team.

Isn't this why Rivers began the motto for this season: Ubuntu. To say, check your egos at the door and prepare to work together for a common goal. The media are the ones painting the Celtics a certain way or giving more focus to one player, Garnett, over others. No, the Celtics aren't about Garnett. Focus on the front of the jersey and not the back.

Game 6 in ATL I thought he was scared, he mustve made about 5 turnovers atleast it seemed like 5 lol

Our record depending on KG is steady because no matter what he gives you great D, 15+ points, and great passing. Allen is a complimentary guy; a great third wheel, but we can win by 30+ when he goes 3-12 like yesterday.

The keys to this team are Rondo and Pierce. When Pierce brings his A game we are near unstoppable. With his B game we are tough to beat but still great if at home. With a bad game from him we end up in real jeopardy.

Same goes for Rondo. When he becomes a 4th scoring threat out there we can't be stopped. If he is driving and dishing he gets everyone, especially Ray and Posey, clicking with easy buckets. If he has a poor game though we get in serious trouble thanks to our lack of consistent backup PG play.

You know our offense is on when Perk and Rondo get into the offense. Rondo hitting jumpers and Perk getting easy dunks along with a few post moves, this is when you know we are clicking.
As for the article, Boston wants another title that has evaded the City for over 20 years, and Garnett wants one just as bad as over 10 years in the league hasn't yielded him as close as he has ever been in getting one. There is a good marriage between Garnett and Boston, the key to success is weighed in by a Championship.

Last time I checked, basketball was a team game.
