Should they be? They are the EC champs, not us.

Given the team they had last year and the fact that it's arguably worse this year, I don't know how much that really means.

"We definitely saw some things," said reserve guard Devin Brown. "They (Boston) had that arrogance about them all season because they won all those games, and you didn't want to see them. But after seeing what we saw, we are ready to go."

This is the difference between this celtic team and the great teams of the past. Russel thought he was going to win every game but he always respected his opponents. This team has little respect for its opponents. Case in point, KG's game seven post game interview: he said something to the effect of "this is how we play here. the hawks wanted it. they pushed us and this is what they got." to me that is akin to saying, "those foolish hawks. we are better than them and they didn't realize it. they shouldn't have even tried. now they need to be disciplined." if the Cs don't respect Cleveland, Detroit, and/or whomever emerges from the west, they aren't going to be champions.

Not buying it. At this stage of the game, every team knows what the stakes are. Maybe it's because I'm a fan, but the Celtics don't come across as hyper-arrogant bastards. And the word "arrogance" gets bandied about far too much, in sports, and in elsewhere. KG wanted to fire his teammates and fans up--and they just won!--is there anything wrong with that?

I think the Cavs would play hard regardless of what the Celtics say. Bird wasn't "arrogant"? You kidding me?

YES Bird was arrogant, that's a part of the "Pride" to me, the important fact is not to laugh in the face of your opponent when you win and not to whine when you loose, that's the Lakers attitude.

PS: Just say to Larry he won't score more, he'll put 40 "arrogant" points in your face

As long as they talk trash after they win I am fine with it. The problem is when you try to talk the "we're the better team" crap after you lose.

The Cavs are veteran team, with former champs and allstars they aren't going to be intimidated by anyone.

Every series is different and that is what is being missed, there is little carry over from one series to another. The biggest thing is that Boston has got to get back to kicking ass in the 3rd quarter staying on it in the 4th quarter, this was the best road team in the NBA and that is why.

Not only that, the Hawks talked so much **** that the C's finally said "you want some more, well here's some more!"

I know it's an old saying, but if don't talk the talk if you can't walk the walk.

Devin Brown is full of it. So if the Celtics swept the Hawks, would he have come out and said "Oh, we don't want to play the Celtics. We're afraid of them."?? No, it's just false bravado from a guy that's gonna be jumping on LeBron's back for the entire series.

Agreed sully and Insatiable: There is nothing wrong with what the Cavs are saying, and nothing wrong with what the Celtics have been saying. You know KG, PP, et al. aren't going to insult the Cavs BEFORE THEY EVEN PLAY A GAME, or even after, and KG's "this is what you get" comment wasn't even that insulting. Players must have really thin skins if that's considered "arrogant" or "insulting." If I got whupped by 34 points in a game 7 on national TV, I'd take my punishment like a man and come back strong next season.

I'm not really sure how the Cavs can emulate the Hawks, unless they suddenly turn back the clock 5 years for everyone on the roster except Lebron and also make all their guys fantastic leapers. There's no one on that roster near as athletic as Smith, Childress, Horford, and Johnson, except for Lebron of course. That, and that alone, was what hurt the Cs.

Also, I hope the Cavs change things and get away from what they did best in the regular season to try to exploit things. You start losing games IMO when you get away from your bread and butter. We saw that with the Cs on the road when they started leaving their offense and playing non-help D. Teams like the Cs, Cavs, and Pistons were good enough so that they could beat any NBA team on a given night if they played their brand of basketball. Let them try to be some other team, especially a 37-45 one.

Ughh, how many times is this going to be the title of an article.

Hawks not intimidate, Cavs not in Awe, Pistons forget opposing teams names, ect.

Honeslty, really? Cus I was really banking on the other team just being scared and handing us the ball during the entire game like so many other teams have done in the playoffs. Honestly, I was just expecting one team to show up for the warmups and then leave and let us walk away the victors. Now that the other team plans to play I.. I just don't know what is going to happen!

No kidding. If you're going to talk crap, at least be good enough to get some worthwhile play, even if you're a bench player. I've honestly never heard of this scrub.

I don't know what it is we do that comes off as arrogant compared to any other team, but hey...whatever gets them fired up, I guess.

This reminds me of that jackass (I can't even remember his name) on the Steelers who guaranteed they'd beat the Pats last season. The Pats specifically went at the guy and showed him up on 2 Randy Moss TDs.

The C's should do the same thing with this Devin Brown clown

Really. The Celtics may talk a lot of smack during games, but they always go out of their way to praise opponents before and after games, even when it's not warranted. It reminds me of pre school kids telling the teacher that a kid was being mean to them during recess. So what if the Celtics talk trash during the game. It's a highly emotional game. Everyone does it. What's stupid is the trash talking to the media. That just shows immaturity and stupidity (hello Deshawn).

Yes, I'm a Cavs fan.

I'm sorry but I don't understand how Devin is a "jackass" or talking crap? Obviously the media is going to play the idea that the Celtics are the clear favorites, and obviously Cavs players aren't going to say they're intimidated. Devin was not guaranteeing anything, he was just saying he knows the Cavs have to come out and bring the intensity the first 2 games, and that he and the Cavs aren't scared of playing Boston despite such an amazing regular season (especially because of the Celtics/Hawks series because it made Boston actually look imperfect).

Anyways, can't wait for the game tonight. I can't imagine how crazy the crowd will be and how intense KG and company will be. I just hope the Cavs can bring it as well, they really need to steal one of the first 2 I think.

*edit* Reading my post again, it may come off to some that I'm the one talking crap  I didn't mean to flame or anything, I just didn't really get why that article makes Devin look so bad. "Very high confidence" would've been a better substitution for "arrogance", but other than that I don't see anything wrong with what Devin or Coach Brown said.

I don't think anyone should be in awe by the C's at this point. Especially after a disappointing first round against the Hawks.

At the same time I think it would've been best for Brown to not say anything. It's not like he's going to be the one doing any real damage. I don't see it as Brown saying anything disrespectful, but Let Lebron talk because he's actually gonna drop numbers. That is practically a given.
