Totally off topic since the celtics are tearing it up in the playoffs right now but I find it hilarious that the Knicks, who are one of the worst defensive teams in the league, are after D'Antoni a coach that teaches no defense. Well I guess anything is better then Isiah.

Anyway props to sam cassel for stepping up a bit the last two games after everyone was ragging on him in the atlanta series. And God I love watching the celtics play smothering defense.

How do you know what he teaches? are you on the staff??

his style of play puts asses in seats.

Suns are a league-average defensive team which isn't that bad with the personnel they have.

D'Antoni is going to Chicago at 95%.

No D'Antoni. He's not a very good coach and his teams don't play D. And when you look at that Suns team, how can they not be good on offense?

We need someone that can take control. Someone like Avery Johnson. No non-sense guy who's not going to let the players' mood dictate the way he coaches, in spite of the team like Doc with Cassell.

Defense wins championships. However New York is not a championship team. They are a team that is only starting to rebuild. They need someone like Doc who can keep control of his players and help develop the available talent. New York is a lousy team. When they start shedding the payroll of some of their headcases they will lose "talent" and "expereience" and probably temporarily even regress. But no one ever said rebuilding doesn't hurt. But in New York's case it's certainly necessary.

Will he be a good developmental coach? Not sure. But at this point his ability with x's and o's are far from a top priority for the Knicks.

He should wait for Mike Brown to get fired and go to cleveland IMO.

There seems to be a lot of unwarranted love for Mike Brown, though, in Cleveland (correct me if I'm wrong)...

Also, someone in another thread mentioned how Mike Brown appears to be a mouth-breather...anyone else notice every time they close-up on him he's either drinking water THROUGH HIS TEETH or spitting into an empty cup? YECH!

Phoenix was every bit as bad as New York when D'Antoni started coaching there -- granted, the Suns had the cap room to quickly go after Steve Nash and Quentin Richardson -- and a budding Joe Johnson brewing on the bench -- giving him the opportunities to have one of the best ever NBA turnarounds.

New York is so bad right now I don't know how anyone could say "they need more defense" or "they need a great offensive coach." They need someone with a team vision, period, and I'm not sure Donnie Walsh will get all the talent needed in one year -- but he certainly has a few players, David Lee in particular, that could thrive under D'Antoni.

I am sure there was a "we know we're rebuilding, hang in with us and we won't hang you out to dry" talk between Walsh and D'Antoni. It will probably take a few years -- but Marbury's money comes off next season and Walsh might be able to find a taker on Curry -- his contract is reasonable in comparison to Randolph -- so the Knicks aren't as far away from settling the salary situation as they would be had they let Isiah keep on trading expiring money for horrible longterm deals.

I'm only somewhat surprised he took the knicks job. While I applaud his implementing a different system in Pheonix I have felt for some time that he doesn't really pay much attention to x' and o' which was confirmed by Mccallum's book about Pheonix and that he sort of believes his own press clippings about being a genius.

I'd pay good money to see Eddy McFlurry's first practice run with Mike D'Antoni. The league's fattest team with the fastest system? They'd better be ready to dump a lot of players...

Money... Technical motivation was all for Chicago but NY put on the table a much bigger offer...
