Worst Piece of Celtics' Merchandise

Post#1 » by Rocky5000 » Fri May 9, 2008 5:49 pm

If you're anything like me, people will eventually end up buying you Celtics' stuff for gifts. Sometimes these people who buy you gifts know very little about the Celtics or gift-giving and end up buying you something that you would never buy for yourself or anyone else. Maybe you end up getting a Mark Blount Jersey, or a signed Jiri Welsh poster. (Luckily neither of those incidents has happened to me...)

For me the worst item I have been given as a gift, is a Wally Szczerbiak action figure, that I was given THIS YEAR long after he was traded. :o
For one thing, I am way too old to start collecting action figures(I have none besides this Wally one...), and for another Szczerbiak was one of my least favorite players to ever wear green. I would have been okay with getting the gift if it was Delonte, Gerald, Big Al, or Gomes, hell I'd probably even like a Telfair figure better than Wally. Of course, I said nothing negative about the gift upon receiving it and said thanks, but in my head I was thinking, "WTH am I going to do with this?!"(Should I unwrap it now and use it as a voodoo doll?)

Maybe you've been lucky enough to avoid being given a bad gift, and have instead made a purchase that you later regretted. Do you have anything Celtics related that's worse than my unwrapped Szczerbiak action figure?

this is a funny topic, it's so true.

last year season ticket holders (at least my father did) got to pick free a authentic jersey and he chose TA over Big Al. In my head I was like what the ****? Funny thing is right now it's almost a wash. I would've liked to see some more run for TA while ray was working on his 0,0,0 line and struggling to keep up with wally(!?). thank goodness doc ended up being right to stick with him (just like my dad?).

I also have a signed Roger Clemens ball, a signed Doug Menkevich picture (catching the last out '04) and every Drew Bledsoe rookie card. My uncomfortable memorabilia game is top notch.

LOL, I have the Wally Z action figure too. Thing is awesome. I like that you can take the legs off--it's sort of indicative of his career.

I would just like to take this opportunity to stick up for Jiri. Not because I think he is a great player but because he looks remarkably similar to me.

Well, a Wally with no knees or ankles is an injury-free Wally.

They have an entire shelf of just those Wally figures at Walmart. I took a picture once, but I don't know where it is.

Funny topic.

I saw a Brian Scalabrine T-shirt a few weeks ago at the official store in the Garden (nothing special, just the jersey look-alikes with the numbers on the back and front). I also remember a mannequin with a Celtics Vin Baker jersey (months after everyone knew he was a dud) at a sports store at the Rockingham Mall.

A gift. You really don't like it? I think the idea of a Wally Szczerbiak action figure is hilarious. I think I got it right before or after he was traded.

Celtic's slipper socks, grey socks with the celts logo and the nba logo on the bottom in rubber for traction. I got them about 20 years ago, and frighteningly I still have them.
