OT: Tom Thibodeau

With Mike D'Antoni reportedly taking the Knicks' job, the Bulls may turn their sights on your assistant coach. The Suns are also supposed to be interested in him.

So, two questions:

1. Thibodeau is credited for his defensive mind. Any clue on whether he could design an effective offense? What style offense would he favor?

2. If the offers are similar $$$ wise, which team with its current roster would you think Thibodeau believes would be a better fit for him as a first-time coach?

I'm curious why you think if he had the choice why he would take Chicago over Pheonix. I would have thought it would have been the other way around.

Chicago are a mess and need some massive changes I think, I bet they are kicking themselves they overrated Deng so much that they missed out on Garnett, Gasol and Kobe.

Phoenix still has Nash and Amare, plus is a free agent destination.

I don't know, I think Thibodeau would like to work with Deng, Hinrich, Noah and Thomas on the defensive end. They were one of the better defensive teams a year ago, I don't know what the hell happened this year.

Deng is still on the verge of superstardom I think. He's just 23 years old. Gordon can light it up, Thomas has a ton of potential, Gooden and Hughes have shown ability in the past, Hinrich is a very nice PG. Sefolosha is a nice bench piece and I think they can easily bring Nocioni back if they want. They have a nice draft pick coming up. I don't see these massive changes that need to take place; they just had a bad year.

Chicago would look really good to me if I were a coach. Lot of potential here to be looked at as a savior. No way the talent on this team only wins 33 games next year.

Hope he stays, but if Chicago came calling I don't think I'd turn it down. But maybe he sees something special in this Boston club and wants to remain as an assistant?

I'd think he would go to the suns. That team is more likely to make the playoffs, and is not the disaster Chicago is. I would say that he could develop a good offense, especially if he had Nash and Amare.

tom would be nice in phoenix, i think the suns can retain their offense with nash and the whole core still there. the defense will get better and would make the suns more dangerous.

Phoenix has an aging team, a skinflint management, high expectations, and a GM who tells the coach what to do.

Chicago seems both like a better first head coaching job to build your resume and also a better chance of actually being a great gig.

I think he should be the next head coach for the Celtics. Be it next year or in a few years. I still have very little faith in Doc.

Chicago should just be patient -- Thibodeau is as good as gone. He wanted a head-coaching gig last year but didn't find the market warm enough for him -- after this season, and constant plugs by JVG on ABC, many teams are likely interested.

I would assume if he takes the job with the Bulls, or anywhere as a headcoach, he'll hire an assistant to work on the offense -- but it will probably be influenced by the Celtics "share the ball" approach; no Princeton schemes or regular ISO plays.
