I went to the Celts-Cavs game in Cleveland

Post#1 » by Duganov 34 5 20 » Mon May 12, 2008 12:32 am

I went to the game in cleveland. Trust me, I've never heard so much **** about Celtics fans. I was wearing Pierce jersey and people said that they wish Pierce was dead from stabbing.
On the jumbotron they showed little movies about Celtics fans and how we're bangwagonners.
They also showed movies about a guy who had a Celtics disease or something.
They showed patriots signs and they showed Tom Brady choking himself.
I swear it was so scary, Everyone was drunk and I honestly thought I'll get shot after the game.
Just wanted to share.

Were people flopping as you brushed by them to get to your seat?

There were. Cleveland sports fans have always been obsessed with their teams, even though the city has gone through more pro sports seasons without a title than any other city.

To the OP, sorry to hear the experience wasn't good for you.

What irked me was while watching game three and listening to the line up announcer announce the starting Celtics players in his most indifferent and low tone voice. Then his voice is exuberant and loud for the home team starters. I understood... But, it came off tactless to me. I've never noticed any other road team do the same to the Celtics before and I was surprised and turn off by it.

i figured this would be a good time to make my first post over here (i dont like to post on the enemy but i thought id make an exception)

to the op, im sorry if your experience wasnt good. cleveland has a lot of good fans but we also have a lot of drunken idiots. so sorry bout that, but i guess if was going to game 5 or something like that in boston as a cavs fan, i would expect the same kind of treatment - not saying its right but tensions run high in the playoffs.

i hate the bandwagon comments made by cavs fans because we should be well versed on being blessed with the good fortune of a good team basically overnight. everybody is still a fan of a losing team but most are probably not likely to keep shelling out money to go to the games when they know it will likely result in a loss

i dont like how people are wishing harm upon paul pierce, but pierce isnt well-liked in c-town. granted its not to the level of deshawn stevenson, brendan haywood or rasheed wallace, but there is still some animosity felt by cavs fans towards pierce because of paul's run-ins with lebron (most notably the spitting incident)

to clear up the comments made about the announcing of the two team's lineups...the cavs essentially have two announcers. the one who announced the celtics was the announcer who basically does the in-game announcing (he'll actually be the announcer for the olympics in august). the person who announced the cavs is like the q yell leader. he's the guy in charge of getting the crowd pumped during timeouts. dont be taken aback by it, they do this for every game - boring/monotone during the visitors intros and loud/hyped up for the cavs intros.

hopefully this helps...looking forward to game 5, best of luck

A little earlier in the year i think they showed Hooper, the Pistons' mascot, getting shot on the jumbotron.

They (the AV crew) go overboard in Cleveland, but whatev. I try not to let it irk me, but if i had young children...

That city has such a MONSTER inferiority complex, even when they are good., like now (browns, indians, and cavs are pretty successful now).

Every team does this to the visitors. Every team has drunken idiots amongst their followers. Every team has bandwagon fans amongst their followers. It's just part of sports. :-\

I don't think it's a matter of Sports, Cleveland is known in the word as a DULL city, when you want to represent the worst city in the world you talk abuot Cleveland. I really haven't been in Cleveland so I can't judge if the city stinks or not but I don't get why CLE is insulted by americans all over the world...

where ae you from then? Cleveland is just a low thrills blue collar town. To me that is a good thing. I wouldn't get to fired up over getting ragged on in the opponents gym. It is, what it is. As a wiseman always says who spent some time in CLE.

Most of the Celtic's videos are about the Celtics, not the opposing team. Personally I love it when the opposing team's fans are sitting near me at the Garden. It's fun giving them **** and rubbing stuff in their face but it's all in fun. There's not malice or ill intent like what Duganov described. That's really too bad they have to stoop to the level saying they wish Paul Pierce had been killed by the stabbing. Now that's **** up.
