Perk is the weak link

I don't say this to be mean but if we had an inside game it would take a lot of pressure off Garnett and our shooters. Both Powe and baby are better post players that Perkins. Perk is who he is ; a hard nosed, marginally athletic big man who provides good defense and tries hard. But he is not athletic and he is not skilled as a post player. the result is that with him and rondo on the floor, Cleveland can play 5 on 3 defense and pack everything in the paint. Ray needs to start beating wally off the dribble if we are to have any chance and it would be nice for pierce to get going as well although I'm not counting on it. What happens is that cleveland can sag off of Perkins and he doesn't make them pay. He compounds the problem by committing stupid fouls. I think you will see more small ball from both us and cleveland in the next 2 games and right now cleveland's guards are playing better than our guards and thier shooter are shooting better than our shooters. Until we get some outside shots to fall cleveland will continue to pack the paint and push Garnett out. But again if Perkins could give us 10 and 10 in the next game that would be a huge lift

Perkins had 12 pts, 7 reb & 2 blocks in Game 3 and the Celtics lost by 24 points.

Care to explain?

While I don't fully agree that Perk is necessarily a 'weak' link, I think that Powe should be getting more action than Perk. He seems to be a part of every O board and has softer hands for the quick dishes down low.

IMO Perk is weak link only when he gets in foul trouble and has to leave the game.

This is ridiculous. Was Perk the weak link when he posted 14 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks in game 6 against Atlanta? Or 10 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks in game 7? Or 7 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks in game 1 against Cleveland? Or 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks in game 4?

Of course, Perk is the least gifted offensive player in the starting unit. But that's not his role. He is asked to be a defensive presence/intimidator, get rebounds/block out and work his but off. If you are putting blame for us not being able to score points, don't look at Perk. We have 3 all stars in the starting unit who have all averaged 20+ points in their careers as primary options. They aren't stepping up on offense. We also have a veteran point guard who is supposed to be clutch in the playoffs and give us an offensive boost off the bench. These are the people who need to step up and carry the offense.

Again, no one whats to blame KG, PP & RA because it hurts to blame their "heros" so they look for someone else to blame (Perk, Rivers, Cassell etc.)

The Big 3 need to step up. Next you'll be telling me it was Greg Kite's fault that the Celtics lost to the Lakers in the 1987 NBA Finals. Please !!!!!!

...the problem is Rondo, because of his consistancy issues with the jumpshot...Cleveland can leave him wide open, or sag off to take away the drive and kick...it won't cost them the series, but it is a weakness...

Rondo was 7-14 .500 FG Pct in Game 4. Pierce & Ray Allen would love to shoot 50% for the game.

i didn't read this, but i'm assuming it's stupid.

i'm sure perkins is the problem and not pierce settling for bad jumpers, cassell killing the offense and doc being bad

it's typical that no one reads for meaning. By weak link I mean that if he were able to contribute on the offensive end he would open things up for our other players. as it is there's no need for cleveland to guard perkins. Is he weak in all phases? No. But in terms of this team, not having a legit post player in the playoffs is a big deal.

I agree with you. Almost all of Perk's offense comes from putbacks or open dunks off of passes. He has ZERO skills when it comes to offense otherwise. Seeing him take that fadeaway jumper last night made me laugh so hard in amusement and disgust that I almost fell off my couch.

Every other thread on this board after a loss is about blaming someone. So far I have seen a blame cassel, Pierce, Garnett, Doc, Allen, and now Perk thread. It's ridiculous. This is the playoffs there is absolutley no one person to blame, it's ALL about team basketball in the playoffs. That's why teams like the Spurs and the Pistons do so damn well, they may be older and slower but the main pieces have been together for years, they know their roles and they know how to win with what they got.
When this team is geling they have been unstoppable, but this is their first year together so expect inconsistency, so let's hope they figure out why they're winning and why they're losing before the playoffs are over. And this is a team effort, do you guys really think that you're smarter then Doc? Do you really think he doesn't notice and try to coach the players on the little bs things that people on this board see and think oh if I was the coach I would have that straightened out right away. Of course he does it's just that the players have to actually follow through with it, which sometimes doesn't happen. There are a lot more aspects to the game of basketball then some ignorant people on this board think.

...i agree he shot the ball well...but what the cavs are trading are Rondo's inconsistant jumper for more coverage on the big three...if you look at their stats (generally lower across the board), it's working...so far...

I agree we could really use a post player, but this big man has to be good enough not to hold us back on defense.

So let me know when we can sign AL Jefferson or Dwight Howard to give us that player.

Agreed!

And Perk has been playing great in the playoffs. He is the least of our problem!

I'm almost certain that I'm much smarter than Doc.

On the other hand, he knows WAY more about basketball than I do, and has VASTLY more knowledge about the specifics of his team and the opposition.

...yup...he is exactly what you want for a guy playing with three superstars...big body, above average defender, will get you 8-10 points off of putbacks or just being the open man off of a garnett double, doesn't need the ball in his hands...i think a lot of people would say he has surpassed expectations this year...

Rondo shhots open, an nba player HAS to put 75% of that shots.

Perkins is averaging 4 points and 6 rebounds in the cavs series. He is only shooting only 39% from the field adn 50% from the line. There is no excuse for that type of play for a starting center.

Danny Ainge needs to upgrade the center position in the off season. Perkins needs to come off the bench next season and play about 15-18 minutes a game, no more than that. Perkins gets us nothing on offense and he doesn't rebound well on a regular basis.

Well Perk was total crap last night, although a couple of the fouls called on him were COMPLETELY bogus!

Still, Davis had a good game, although I would have liked to have seen more POWE!
