Alot of people are of the belief we need a player, one of the big three to step up and adopt the "jump on my back boys and i'll lead us to the promised land" mentality in order to win not only this series, but in the rest of the playoffs as a whole


do you agree with this point of view and who if anyone is capable of doing this

thats the problem there is nobody who can do that, the only person I think close would be Posey

The only guy who has the talent, sufficient experience, and, apparently, the personality may be KG. He's played the best of anyone, and yet he seems to need to be nudged to take over at key times.

Posey, Powe, BB, Rondo and Perk are the guys who seem to have the fortitude, but they lack the talent and/or experience. I actually think if Doc had stuck with Rondo a bit better he may have been the guy to come through in tandem with KG.

PP is the guy we were all hoping would overcome his earlier boneheaded/selfish/immature tendencies at crunch time, but unless he turns it around very quickly it looks like he's been exposed for his limitations on that count.

I think in future years Powe, BB and Perk all may have the stuff inside to exceed their talent in that role. Posey is just short on the talent front to do that now, but he may have been our most poised player so far.

I think Posey's talent is a bit underrated, he can put 15pts 6rebs on any given night, he can defend, he can drive, he can shoot, I see no reason he can't put 22 and 8 if he makes some better offensive effort. I any case I think that ALL the supperting cast has to play good games in order to win a title, the are MULTIPLE examples in NBA history...

BJ Armstrong, John Paxon, Bill Wennington, Harper, Kerr

Bowen, Horry, Barry, Finley, Kerr(again)

Tayshaun Prince, Okur, Williamson, Atkins

Fisher, Devean George, Horry(again), Brian Shaw

All this guys were part of a championship team and all this guy contribued to their ring different times during the post season, hitted big shots, grabbed a fatal rebound, make a key play... Thei relieved the pressure over their Scottie/Michael, TD/TP/Manu, Rashed/Clauncey/Rip and Shaq/Kobe...

All the guys has to step up, right now only Rajon, Sam and Leon contributed in a couple of amazing games, thats not enough to win and NBA championship. We need Posey hit his shots and defend well EVERY GAME, we need Cassell score his 7-8 points on EVERY GAME, we need Rajon hit easy jumpers on EVERY GAME, we need Perk and Leon hustle and be angry for rebounds on EVERY GAME... If they don't did that Ray will be doubled FOREVER, KG will be forced to score 40 going 1vs2 on any given night and PP will have to INVENT 5-6 absurd baskets all the playoffs long, that's simply not possible!

Posey would be the natural choice, since he's the most capable of doing what Maxwell did. Too bad Cassell thinks he should be that. Actually Cassell thinks he should be Bird...

You may be right, ermocrate, in that if they get there it will have to be a team pitch-in. I think you're underrating Perk's contribution to date, as he, KG and RR are the 3 players they really couldn't do without.

But in the absence of any 4th quarter heroics from the Big 3, they've got to have someone who is actually playing in the 4th come through with some big plays. I think they've actually been short on that all year. It was masked by their winning so many games going away. But road playoff games require some crunch-time guts--and nobody has really come through yet.

I think some of you guys are smoking too much if you think RAJON RONDO can be "that guy". He's too young, inexperienced, and inconsistent with his jumper.

Sam Cassell is too old.

Kevin Garnett is too unselfish.

Ray Allen was never that guy.

Pierce could be but seems to lost some of his offensive capabilities as the years has gone on.

All in all our best hope is Pierce. Someone slip him some caffeine or something, dude needs to wake up. He needs his cojones back

an 01' antoine type guy needs to emerge. somebody who knows how to properly express their feelings(kg isnt that). my vote goes to perk or posey to be that guy to get on the "stars"

He had cojones back in 2001, 2002. Even 2006, when he got real heated with the Cavs and would trash talk with Lebron.

What the hell happened to that competitive side of him? It's like his ego has been deflated by Lebron. It's one thing to be out matched by someone, its another thing to lay down and die. He should have learned that from the Hawks.

Also, when was the last time P2 dropped 50 on somebody? I think it was 2001, or 2002 ?
Who else remembers when Pierce went 16 of 25, 8 of 10 3pointers, 6 assists, and 0 TO in Game 5 of the First round against Philly?

I still remember those days and that's why its hard to see Pierce like this now. We had a superstar back then. Now, I'm not sure what we have. Pierce springing for 50 back in the day wasn't a surprise to anyone - we knew he was that good. Now it seems as if the sky falling is more likely.

Paul has only scored 50 points once in his career. He did it against LeBron James and the Cavaliers in May of 2006.

I agree that he needs to step his game up, I thought he was the MVP of the team in the regular season, despite KG getting all of the press. This team was capable of winning without KG, and they won without Ray Allen, but I don't think they could have won without Paul Pierce in the lineup. We're seeing that when he doesn't show up offensively in games, we don't stand much of a chance.
