EXCELLENT coaching by Doc

A lot of people have been getting on Docs back. I dont know if it was cheryl miller or one of the announcers but after halftime they said doc addressed to the team that they had to start moving the ball around more and had to start bringing the ball to the basket.
His substitutions were also great. He gave Sam a chance since he's been hot at home but it didn't work out so he brought Rondo back in. Pj Brown came in and got two (or was it three) great fouls and he also played good defensivley. Then the Davis substitution worked out great because when the ball is moving around good Davis is always a great finisher and has good hands. Davis also played textbook d to his ability.

ps did anyone notice antoine was sitting courtside?

Agreed. I loved Doc's substitutions tonight as well. He played Rondo the entire 2nd half IIRC, took KG out with 1:30 left in the 3rd and brought him back with 10 minutes left instead of bringing him back with 7 minutes left like in Cleveland and he brought Pierce back in with 10 left, too. The Big Baby move paid off as well.

well he finally figured out our offensive sets weren't working and just let Rondo penetrate and create. Great move to spread the floor and use pick and rolls with the guards. on the down size it took him 5 games to figure it out.

yupp

-docs halftime speech about moving the ball was 100% the difference in this game
-Sam Cassell didn't see the floor in the second half
- Inserting Baby over Leon

great in game adjustments by Doc

Yes, Good subsituting by doc, and good words of wisdom during halftime. However, we really need to stop that 1/2 man isolation game with only a few seconds left on the shot clock, it ruins our offense, and it let Cleveland create a spark of hope.

I thought Doc did a good job tonight.

Next game I think he really needs to stay on Rondo's case to create. Cleveland has played great defense on us this series, but Rondo broke them down tonight with high-energy attacks on the paint. Rondo's got to keep his energy and crazy level up like that or we might slip back to sub-40% shooting.

i like the fact that he didn't keep KG in the bench for so long! that's why kg didn't lose his rythm. and keeping rondo in good stretches.

stay with this rotation doc.

In the first half he was terrible as usual!

In the second he was great! Finally! He put KG back in at the right time, he played Rondo for the whole half and putting Davis in was also nice! Very happy with him in the second half! Now, let`s see more of this Doc!

Well we've been screaming for moving the ball more since Atlanta series. What took him so long?

You are so right. Turning the game over to Rondo makes Doc uneasy because Doc loses control over the game. With Rondo, things may not work out as called. Rondo is like a running quarterback. NFL coaches dislike running quarterbacks because plays called often break down. However, giving Rondo the keys to the offense is the only way the Celts will win.

He should have told them to keep running until there was a minute left. We stopped with like 6 left and thats when Cleveland almost got back into it

Agreed, Rondo was hot in the first half, showed good stuff in the second half and Doc decided to run with the hot hand and kept Rondo in the entire second half. That was excellent to see.

His players could of executed the 4th quarter a lot better but that was defentily the way to go.

I like Baby, but I don't know if he would of done better then Powe would have. I really don't care wich one is in but I think Baby should get some run at some point because he can finish around the hoop soo much. Glad Baby didn't go too far, if he landed on that guy that would of been a sure flagrant.

Pierce's two careless turnovers killed the flow. Whenever Pierce or Allen handle the ball in a critical moment, I would hold my breath and pray.

Not only had rondo penetrating, but our ohalfcourt offense was quick. No more dribbling to the end of the clock.

The offense was quick and we created more shots. We have to speed up the game and get more shots up.

Still, down 14 and needing a pair of 3s from rondo is pretty desperate.

Those back-to-back threes by Rondo in the 2nd quarter really turned the game around for us. We woke up and played Celtic basketball after that.

I am not going to rehash my complaints re:Doc so far in the playoffs, but unfortunately I can't agree with the sentiments of the thread. Better coaching, maybe, but definitely not excellent IMO.

Also, I have to wonder if bringing Cassell or House in for two minutes in the fourth may have been smart, and helped us close the game out more easily. I totally agree Rondo needed more minutes tonight and has needed more minutes in past games, but I almost never like to see any player play a whole half straight.

I have to agree. Tonight Doc did a very good job. I just hope he plays House a few minutes in game 6 instead of Cassell. Cassell has been horrible on the road.

I also liked going to Davis instead of Powe. Powe was very ineffective again tonight.

Cassell being glued to the bench was great. And playing KG and Pierce over 40 minutes was a must and Doc came thought. Very good job, Doc.

It's just ridiculous for some of you who always wanna bag on Doc for playing or not playing this player or that player and now talk about how you thought it was a great move for him to play Davis in the 4th. He did the EXACT same thing in game 4, and you all KILLED him for it.
