What Happened to Ray Allen?

In the 1st series against vs the Hawks, Ray Allen was playing bad. The excuses started that he was being defending by taller players like Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams. The taller defenders were a tough match up for Ray Allen and were effecting his game. Those were the excuses Celtic fans were giving.
Now this was the series where Ray Allen was supposed to play better. How could he play any worse? The was the series where he was going to be guarded by a weak defender in Wally. This was supposed to be the series were Ray Allen was supposed to re join KG and Pierce to form the Big 3 again.
But Ray Allen has played worse in this series than vs the Hawks. What has happened to Ray Allen? It wasn't supposed to be like this.
What's even worse his that none of the coaching staff is addressing this. There is no talk about getting Ray going. There are no plays designed for him. WTF happened to Ray Allen and why isn't Doc concerned?

The only explanation I have is that he is injured. That his ankles are done...Otherwise I had no idea why he would be this bad. I mean he had quite a few good games throughout the season, he was decent in regular season actually. Why he would just fell of the face of the earth in the playoffs is beyond me!
And what hurts me the most is that Wally freakin Szczerbiak is toying with him! Wally! This makes me sick!

Ray needs to shoot.
He just isn't being aggressive and probably lost some confidence.
Doc isn't running plays for for him.
I don't see any screen plays called for him or any pick 'n rolls.
He is basically a kick out guy now and that can't be his game.
He's not Kyle Korver.

Ray is not shooting well. But his degree of difficulty on a lot of his shots is very high. He is not going to blow by anyone, even with Wally on him. At this point it is pretty easy to guard him, just get up in his face.
The more the game is a half-court one, the more he will struggle. There will be less space for him to operate and get easy looks. The playoffs are a half-court game for the most part. The shots he ends up getting are tough and he can't get into any rhythm.

About a month ago NBATV showed SA vs. Seattle, 2005 ECF (game 3 I think). Ray shot 6-28 and almost cost his team the game (I don't think he scored the whole 2nd half... he definitely didn't score in the 4th). Seattle won by 1 pt because SA missed the last shot. Ray was TERRIBLE! and I remember saying that I hope this is not the Ray we will be seeing in the playoffs. Unfortunately, that is exactly the Ray we are seeing.

Ray doesn't really fit here and should be traded this off-season if we don't get to the Finals.

he needs more shots but it.s mind boggling to me that he can't beat wally or pavolic off the dribble. I think his hops are gone. he can't elevate even on a breakaway. it's sad to see and say but he is not the same player he was a year ago. I would take delonte west straight up for ray allen right now. I hate to say it but it looks like ray is done.

Which would explain the two dunks over Josh Smith in the First Round.

Ray Allen reminds me of Gary Payton who was still one of the top point guards in the league before he went to LA from Seattle. Once he got to LA and wasn't the 1st option playing with Shaq, Kobe, and Malone, his game fell off the face of the planet. Ray Allen averaged 26ppg in Seattle last year and is struggling to average 13ppg in the playoffs. Looks like his game has fallen off the face of the planet too. His biggest asset about Ray will be his expiring contract down the line.

Wait a minute we have a player named Ray Allen?

If you look at ray's playoff averages (before these playoffs), you'll see that he does better in every statistical category in the playoffs, and his shooting percentages are much higher.

Ray is a past-his-prime jump shooter who can put up a lot of points if he is the focal point of an offense. Unfortunately when even an in-his-prime jump shooter is the focal point of an offense, he's not on a very good team.

He's either really way out of his rhythm or hurt. It's not the defense, because I can think of several uncontested shots he's missed, including one in game four (I think, probably wrong), where he was wide open (by about ten feet in each direction), unchallenged, early in the game, and his shot wasn't even close.

Well, Ray has always been a guy who steps up in the playoffs (it was 6-23, BTW, in that Spurs game) so I don't think we're seeing Ray suck because he's a playoff choker or anything. Coming into these playoffs, his career averages were something like 25 PPG on 48% shooting from the field, 43% from 3 and 89% from the line.
I really don't know what it is that's having him play so poorly, but he just looks awful out there. This was the guy I picked to be our leading scorer this series considering that Wally was guarding him...it's really shocking to see him suck this bad with as bad of a defender as Wally on him.

I know, I didn't say he hasn't performed well in the playoffs before, I'm just talking about the one game I did see him perform poorly and hoped that that wasn't the Ray we would see. Like I said, it is the Ray we are seeing. If we can get by Cleveland, I still have hope that he snaps out of it.

I picked Ray to be the leading scorer in this series as well, mainly because of how he played against Cleveland in the regular season. I thought he'd be running circles around Wally. I can't believe Wally is outplaying him.

I just can't understand what has happened to him. I guess he could be hurt, although he doesn't look or move like he's hurt. He's just not getting it done, sadly.

He's had plenty of screens and pick n' rolls and he's missed the shots. No amount of plays run for Ray is going to help him, he just needs to make the shots he takes.

he doesn't know what his role in the offense is. plain and simple.
ray plays well when the celtics move the ball, because he's always on the weak side. if the celtics go into "kg vs everyone, Pierce vs. everyone, Rondo thinks he's CP3" mode, we lose.
I'v seen so many occasions where Ray has been ahead of the break, wide open, or had a good matchup... and hasnt been passed the ball in favor of a much worse shot. The coaching staff absolutely needs to address this.
He isn't injured, his defense is pretty good.
