Summer 2008 - Ainge's strategy

Post#1 » by galbilo73 » Tue May 20, 2008 8:08 am

I know we are all excited about the upcoming game vs. Detroit (at least I am)! I know that the season is not finished yet...but...in Spain we use to say that the best way to prepare your mind to and important event (tonight's game), you should think about something different... relax and change topic...

Here it is my topic/question for you:

Has Posey mentioned anything about opting out of his contract?

You have to think there'd be several teams willing to give him the full MLE as a starter.

I wonder if he'll jump for a chance to make some more money.

If he wanted the full MLE I think he would not have signed for Boston, I think he wants to win a ring and actually likes the environment.

Hey, if Ray doesn't snap out of it Posey should be starting here.

Resign Posey
Let PJ and Cassel walk - can resign PJ at to deadline
resign House if cheap
West 20M/5yrs, part MLE or Diop 20M/5yrs
S&T Allen, pick 30 for pick 20-25, draft Robin Lopez/Bill Walker (might be even available at 30)
Goran Dragic pick #60 - homer pick :D
Gerald for LLE or vet minimum, 1 year, 2nd year team/player option

Rondo/West/House/Pruitt
Allen/West/House/Green
Pierce/Posey/Green/(Walker)
KG/Powe/Baby
Perk/(Lopez)

I would like to see them get a legite starting 5. Someone who can rip 8+ RPG. Maybe even leave his feet to block the occasional shot. Oh yeah I almost forgot, someone who doesn't drop the ball to their anckles, everytime he catches a wide open look under the basket. That is all. Everything else looks pretty good.

My idea is:

Josh Childress with part of the MLE, like 8mil/2yr (should be resigned when Ray expires and eventually signs for less money)

Earl Barron or Patrick O'Bryant with the other part of the MLE for 2yrs

A cheap PG that can score like Turonn Lue, Earl Boykins or Anthony Carter

Draft DeVon Hardin

Resign PJ for cheap money, he is useful, very useful.

Evantually sign a very cheap Salim Stoudamire

Rondo/Lue/Pruitt
Allen/Childress/Stoudamire
Pierce/Posey
KG/Powe/Baby/PJ
Perk/Barron/Hardin

You can't get Childress for free, MLE would be matched, we can't offer more unless there is S&T

So what you're saying is, replace Perk? 8)

Which I agree with wholeheartedly, BTW. Perk is a servicable backup, nothing more.
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Josh is gonna ask the max, I don't know if they gonna match 4mil/years, maybe they match only for a sign and trade...

I think the key to this off season is to keep the payroll as flexible is possible. Any moves we make this summer should not be adding any significant salary past the 09/10 season. The only exception I would condone is an extension for Posey. Powe and Baby don't need to be resigned until next summer and Pruitt doesn't need to be resigned until the summer after that. Let's keep the payroll light signing only 1-2 year lower and mid level deals.

I forget to mention that they have still 2 max contracts and 2 MLE level salaries, if the re-sign Josh at the max and Childress al the MLE level they will pay 63 million for 10 players of a team that ranks #8 in the eastern...

there's nothing we have for a S&T for Childess. And to get salary relief, they'd have to do a S&T with somoene with cap space for a pick. The'll be over the cap, but they have a young and promising squad, ready to be better year to year.

Childress isn't going to get the max. That's silly.

Josh Smith on the other hand ...

Try to get Josh Childress.

Make sure Posey, Allen, House Stay.

I like PJ, but you can let him walk, those basketball legs can't hold up forever.

Get rid of Cassell. You can put him on staff if you want. Assistant coach, I don't know...

I'd say we try to keep the same roster, except get rid of Cassell. PJ Brown can play sparingly during the season or do what we did this year. He's clearly been an asset to us.

I don't think we have to do things like going after Josh Childress. He's not worth the money he'd command. A guy like Josh Smith would be dream, but it's just a dream because there probably are about 30 teams ready to throw max money at him, if it's possible to.

I think guys like Powe, Pruitt, TA, Big Baby and even Rondo and Perk will all be better next year. So whatever we lose from the veterans will be made up for by them.

I'd love to get Childress as well, but I'm not holding my breath on it. I'd like to at least take a look at O'Bryant. He could come cheap, probably would be looking for a short deal. He has some potential, his mediocre start's been mostly due to Nelson from what I can see at least. If he's looking for a short deal to prove himself, then give him a shot, it could really pay off. If he's looking for a longer deal (3-5 years), stay away, because that'd mean he's not looking to prove himself any time soon.

Quick question on Posey, if he doesn't exercise his option to stay with us, would he count against the MLE to sign to a new deal and is there any max on how much we can give him considering or salary cap situation?

Get David Lee from NY for our first and a player or 2 of equal salary.

Return to Boston Celtics
