Rip's thrown elbow???

Post#1 » by Joselo16 » Wed May 21, 2008 8:02 pm

I don't like starting threads but since no one has made one about this topic, what the heck.

Do you guys think anything will come out of that elbow Hamilton threw at KG's face. I know the ref's just called it as a foul but in the replay you can clearly see that he was intentionally trying to hit him in his face and missed and since I've seen people getting suspended for similar stuff this post season (Songaila on Lebron) I wonder if the league will fine or suspend him for it (I highly doubt it). What do you guys think?

Since it was against a Celtic, I'll predict NO, even though Van Gundy said it was a "dirty play" and should earn him a suspension.
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Yeah and when Ray retaliated he got called for it. Now if Perk where to do it to one of their guys he would be ejected and suspended for it which is crap.

It was actually Ray that elbowed Rip. But it was more of a flop on Rip's part. I thought the Songaila suspension was pathetic. Rip's move seemed a lot more intentional, but neither warrant a suspension.

You guys have seen nothing yet. this series is goinng to get really physical. once the Pistons figure out they can't beat us on talent they will try and go dirty. That is what veteran teams do.

composure is the word of the day.

The elbow was nothing and not worthy of a suspension.

I think that's just how UCONN guys communicate. They have info-nodes at the tips of their elbows and relay information back and forth through them.

Robert Parish had to try to kill Laimbeer to earn a one game suspension back in the day. Now we're talking about suspending a guy for missing an elbow?

Well going by todays standards a slap to the face is a suspension, so why wouldn't an intentional elbow be one?

Well, a slap in the face is just plain disrespectful.

An elbow could be an accident (dont think so in this case, but at least it looks more natural in the flow of the game than slapping someone in the face).

I remember Ray Allen elbowing Rip in the regular season because he got fed up with being poked in the torso on defense.(I didn't realize how annoying this was until my dad started poking me in the ribs. It kinda hurts after a little while).

I don't think Rip deserves a suspension. If he made solid contact, then sure, but it barely grazed KG. Just let it go. I don't want any excuses from the Pistons if the Celts do win the series. Also, a suspension that favours the Celtics would just add fuel to all the conspiracy theorists out there who think David Stern plans on giving the title to the Celts.

I don't know this looks like its in the "flow of the game" and he just backslaps him.

I'm not saying he should be suspended but if were a fair and balanced (not like FOX news fair and balanced ) league then he would be.

he SHOULD be suspended, but he wont. if the NBA's gonna be consistent & not favor certain players, then they def should suspend him. songaila got suspended for gettin tangled up w/lebron. this was a clear elbow attempt at KG's face, yet it was only a normal foul called.

once again, the nba needs to do something with all of this crap. its pathetic. everyone & their momma knows if lebron or kobe got an elbow like that, that the person who threw it would get suspended. KG should cried about it longer like lebron does EVERYTIME he gets touched, then maybe they woulda called somethin else. its so annoying seein lebron cry like a baby anytime he gets knocked to the floor. for him to be a beast, he sure isnt as tough as one with the way he acts.

Well I dont think the error is not suspending Rip, I think the error was suspending Songalia.

I agree that looked in the flow of the game and I think that was the league overprotecting Lebron.

Just because Lebron gets ridiculous calls doesnt mean they should make one on Rip that may greatly alter the series...two wrongs dont make a right...

...although you are preaching to the choir on needing consistency from the refs, I think we all agree on that.

-Dizzy

P.S. Even though I said I didnt like the suspension on Songalia it was still worse than what Rip did to KG, especially since he missed contact mostly.

Then I think we agree with each other because I don't think Songaila should have been suspended either, to me it's just playoff basketball. I just wanted to bring up the argument of inconsistency from the league in these matters. One gets suspended while the other will most likely get nothing for it.

I will disagree in that what Rip did was worse because of his intention, which was to was to connect his elbow to KG's face in order to cause damage. Still I don't think a suspension is warranted, it's just playoff basketball to me. Now if the C's pull the same stuff will we be allowed to do it? I hope so, but I doubt it.

Absolutely. Too bad KG skipped college, and now doesn't have info-nods on his face. Not Rip's fault by any means.

I used to respect the Pistons a lot but I lost all respect I had for them when BEN freaking wallace started flopping on Miami 2 years ago.

From then on it just spiraled out of control, everyone on Detroit started doing it. It was ridiculous seeing Ben fly 4 feet after someone placed a hand on him. This was a grown man, probably 250 lbs, all muscle, flopping.

Once Detroit realized they weren't going to win they started flopping. they almost pulled the series out too

Trying to kill Laimbeer isn't something that should be punished. It should be encouraged. Even at WNBA games in 2008.
