2010

Post#1 » by BeanTownBrawler » Thu May 22, 2008 12:47 am

(Sorry to post this in the midst of this exciting playoff run, but its Celtics talk nonetheless)

I know this has been discussed before, but with Ray Allen coming off the books in 2010, the Celtics will have cap space to fool around with.

Will we be in the market for LeBron if he opts out? I know its a pipedream, but I gained so much respect for the guy in the last series and would LOVE to see him in green.

Is this thought within reason? And if so, how would we have to restructure our roster to make it work?

It would have to be a trade involving Ray and some pics, plus any good young players we have aquired till then. It is a long shot but we would have a chance and sometimes thats all you need.

its funny that you gained so much respect for him when most of us feel the exact opposite on that.

he got fouled every time he went to the hoop, and if he didnt he was yelling at the ref instead of getting back on defense.

sure, he is a great talent and thats what great players do, get to the line and get free points, but when he was doing it, something about it didnt scream superstar to me, not yet atleast.

if he opts out, im sure the celtics would do everything in there power to get him, and quite frankly if KG and Pierce are still here, with some other younger talent, he might come here in hope to be a segway from one championship type team to another, but thats so far into the future i just dont know.

but unless the cavs start getting him some help, like serious help in terms of a solid 2 and 3 like we have, i dont see why he stays with the cavs who outside of lebrons era dont have much to say when it comes to success, if Jordon can finish his career on a team not named the bulls and kobe can demand a trade from one of the two most historied franchises in the leauge, there is no reason to think lebron wont get there some day.

Not superstar? For serious?

I wouldn't mind having a player on my team who went to the line every time he went to the basket ...

no he isnt a superstar, michael jordon was a superstar, magic was a superstar, bird.

right now, its kobe and then everyone else.

thats if you dont count the bigs, but lebron will be a superstar in a few years, right now he's just one of the best of what the leauge has to offer.

You're insane. LeBron is the definition of a superstar. He's an iconic figure that symbolizes and represents the NBA. Of course you're going to hate playing against him, because he gets "star" calls. Well to be blunt, most of the calls against the Celtics weren't bull. LBJ is HUGE and sometimes hard contact makes little difference to his body control, but is still a foul. It's the same problem there is with calling fouls against guards on bigs.

I don't love Lebron but he is a absolutely a huge superstar - and I think the most athletic player I have ever seen.. That Cavs team is the closest thing to a one man team since Allen Iverson took the Sixers to the finals.

of corse he is.

if he is a superstar now, then your gonna need a new word to describe him when he hits his prime.

Take Lebron away from the Cavs and that team is a 60+ loss team. They are positively horrendous. The guy is the very definition of a superstar. For my tastes he is a bit too concerned with his own image, but when you are deemed the next Jordan (not Jordon, not sure who that is) at age 16, that can happen.

Remember also, he is just 24 years old and took his team to a NBA Finals appearance a year prior. He can play 3-4 more years, not get a ring, and then finally get his "Pippen" (aka- quality runningmate) and STILL go on a 6-8 year stretch of NBA domination thanks to his ridiculous, freakish athletic ability.

I gained a lot of respect watching LBJ this year. Still wouldn't have put him higher than 3rd on this year's MVP ballot (behind Kobe and CP3) but he did move closer to 3rd than before the series. The one thing I think he needs to change is that he is most concerned with being the best player on the planet, and if he wins a championship in the process that's great. Kobe wants to win a championship, and if he happens to be the best player on the planet on the road to doing that, great. That's what makes Kobe the better player- the drive for the championship. IMO James has his priorities a bit backwards, but at 24, he's still so young that I am sure his feelings will change about which is more important soon enough. If he learns ASAP, he could go on a long stretch of championships.

The interesting question is would you include Rondo in a deal for LBJ? I know I would but I am sure some crazy fans will say know.

If Rondo becomes the next Tony Parker then no... Otherwise, let's talk about it... I tink it depends on how good is the team in that days and how much salary cap we got, I think that we are forced to get rid of PP if we are willing to make a run at LBJ but no team will take PP ending contract if LBJ is on the market, sincerely I'll try a run at Paul or Wade or Deron Williams 2010 (easiest to acquire because they'll be under the radars), Melo or Roy or Aldridge or Tyrus Thomas or Rudy Gay in 2011, Howard or Kevin Durant or Oden or Horford in 2012, more cap space, great talents... I think that by the ending of the big 3 you got plenty of possibilities...

The summer of 2010 will be historic because Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh will all become unrestricted free agents.

I would like to see a breakdown on how we can get under the cap; seems hard to believe with Pierce and Garnett on the books. I guess Rondo is the only other guy who will have a relatively big contract by then, besides Perk. We'd just have to be stingy with the MLE until then maybe?
