I get so upset over this. You go to Cleveland, Atlanta, Orlando, and it looks like each person on their stands will eat you for dinner after the game. I can't even understand the amount of pressure that must put on players, and how the team feeds off the crowd offensively, and defensively. Now at our games all I see it dumb signs "Green 17!", "Go Celtics", etc... and all I think is that we're not hostile enough. Heck, on the Cleveland series that had the Celtics logo being cut off on their screen and all. We've had KG screaming since the beginning of the season, and I feel like it's time for a change, cause people will get more excited. And all we get is people that don't really care about what's going on on the lower seats, and they just sit down 85% of the times. If you got the fans from the balcony and put them down there it'd be a different game. It sucks that you have to be rich to be able to go to the games and get decent seats and all, so I have to conform myself with the idea that I couldn't be there, but if I could I'd be making much more noise and being much more hostile with the chants and posters to the opposite team.

I've noticed this as well. The problem is due to the prices and the bandwagon effect.

All the rich people in Boston signed on when the celtics started playing well.
They aren't as loud or as into the game as people in the bleachers.
They're taking up most of the seats and sucking the life out of the garden.
It's really sad. The Garden was louder and more alive during the 2002 playoff run and the Celtics weren't nearly as good back then.

Fans didn't have as much expectations and the fans there were TRUE fans.
Pay money just to see the Celtics play, even with a slim chance of winning.

I knew something was wrong when ATLANTA's crowd was better than ours.

This is clearly coming from someone who hasn't been to any games this postseason, sorry you're wrong. Watching it on TV doesn't even give you a taste of the intensity there.

Well of course it's more intense when you're THERE ... that's not the question. The question is "is TD BankNorth Garden less intense than other arenas." I think it's a reasonable question. I have noticed on TV that it seems less aggressive and fearful than other teams fans ... but that's a pretty casual observation.

How exactly did I miss the point? So you're saying you would rather the crowd appear loud on TV rather than actually be loud there and effect the game?

Seriously though, we might not be the best, but I wouldn't call it a bad crowd.

I think we have the smartest fans in the league to be honest, and maybe not the loudest, but I think we have more of an effect than most teams.

IN terms of how often fans in the front row seats stand up and how often they cheer, the garden is beat by: San Antonio, new Orleans, Atlanta, and Utah. They might have been beat by more crowds but I wasn't paying enough attention.

These are objective measures that one can see just by looking at the front-row crowd. Celtics front-row only cheers when the Celtics score. "DEFENSE" chants start up once in a while. The front-rows might stand a couple times a game. In some other arenas the fans are standing and cheering the entire game.

No. The statement of the thread is that we may have an under-enthusiastic home crowd compared to other home crowds. The difference between BEING there and WATCHING on TV is irrelevant. I don't care how it sounds on TV, but if you're comparing your teams crowd noise to others, obviously you either have to compare a sample of different arenas on TV, or go to a bunch of different arenas and compare them. Since you made no mention of it, I assumed you haven't been to all 29 NBA arenas.

I found it funny that you were completely dismissive of everybody else's opinion when you missed the point of the thread.

And I've been to San Antonio, Atlanta, Utah and Orlando and I still think we can compare to all of them. And it's sad that no one outside of us watched this team last year, because for all the **** we get for being bandwagon fans, the crowd was still strong most of last year.

The Garden doesn't come off as a very intense place on TV. I remember watching Mavs/Warriors games (in last years playoffs) and the Golden State crowd was really loud through out the entire series. This year the Hawks and Cavs crowds were just as intense. I don't know if its the way the arenas were built but the garden just doesn't seem up to par with the others.

Also why can't the fans wear the all green shirts (which would look awesome if they did) to rep the team. Do they have to pay for them or are they just not fashionable enough to wear. It looks really crappy when you just see some patches of green around the arena (reminds me of a dying garden).

Aren't we 9-0 at home in the playoffs? The home crowd seems to be the least of our worries.

Yes... I'm really gonna have to agree with the poster in this case.. We don't have enough color in the crowd... Too many rich white folks.. Pretty much the weakest crowd in the NBA.. Its unfortunate for the franchise with the best history. But hey , what are you gonna do.. All the good seats are filled with little red hed trust fund babies.[/i]

Alright, fair enough. I don't know why you didn't just say you could compare us to those teams in the first place. Probably your best argument.

Sorry, haha honestly I didn't wanna come off as the type of rich person being described in the OP , I just have connections all over the league. But as for the shirt thing, I sorta tend to agree. I think that we just have the history with Red and all that alota people won't do it outta respect for him. I dont know, I think it would be cool.

Not much we can do, but it just gives all of us true fans a bad representation.

On a tangent, I hate it when crowds stay standing up for a long time because I'm really short and it can be hard for me to see when that happens.

You can find at least a dozen quotes like that. The players seem to appreciate the home crowd, and every person I've talked to who has been to a game said the Garden has been rocking. I couldn't care less if those acoustics come across on the television, because the crowd is doing a great job getting the Celts pumped up.

Yeah, and then when you stand up, you feel that the people behind you aren't standing, and you feel bad that your blocking their view. Well, I felt that way at least, sometimes...

Maybe we should of just have given out red shirts in memory of Red instead of green ones (some might find that as disrespectful though).
