Doc needs to give Cassell playing time

Post#1 » by TheSheriff » Fri May 23, 2008 2:46 am

Seriously, this is the team we got Cassell to beat. Rondo is a liability on offense out there. And House does not have a good enough handle to be trusted dribbling against Billups/ Hamilton. Did Sam sleep with Doc's wife or something?

We don't need offense, we need defense. Sam doesn't provide that.

Defense was a problem this game. But Rondo passing up wide open jumpers has been a problem for the last four games. If Rondo hits just one or two of those jumpers this game is completely different.

Sam isn't going to be that much of a liability over House. We definately need Sam's ballhandling.

In the first half there was definetly some moments when we could have used Sam. Watching the first game you could see that was the adjustment the way would make on Rondo.

But I am sorry this game wasn't about the backcourt. We can beat off with the production we got upfront. Rondo out boarded out entire frontcourt sans Garnett. Our bench was garbage.

I find it humerous how Sam Cassel tries to be the vet that helps the team and then tells the media that he knows at some point in this series they will need him. Is he saying that boston will fail without him? THat is how it comes across to me.

Our backup pg can't get the ball past halfcourt.

Sam will be playing next game.

I dont understand how Sam wasn't immediately put in the game when House wasn't looking good. Doc doesn't mind yanking players obviously and unless I'm missing something, I think we brought in Sam for a reason.

Sam is the kind of wily vet that could give Stuckey fits.

It's a good thing Sam was rested for this series.

In all honesty though, if Sam plays then Bill Simmons' head is going to explode. Who's going to volunteer to clean that mess up? Not me.

Like Ray played well again, Sam can help us out there too.

I just dont understand. I mean maybe Sam would have come in and sucked, but what if he came in and won the game? It is usually pretty easy to tell if House is going to be effective and it was clear pretty quickly to me that Sam should get a chance.

Exactly. Just as I didn't understand why House never got a chance in the second half of games where Cassell looked like crap in the first half.

First Doc was over-relying on Cassell, and now he is under-relying on him.

Rondo is not a liability on offense. He is inconsistant because he is so young. Also remember how big of a liabilty Sam is on D. He refuses to intiate the offense by passing the ball.

defense was a problem, but so was offense. we missed alot of shots. no one was hitting anything. I was saying during the game give cassell a shot cause we need some offense.

^^Part of the problem is that infuriating habit Rondo has of driving to the hoop, getting to the rim...and passing it. TAKE IT ALL THE WAY!!! Same with his shot, TAKE THE J!!! It will open the floor for the rest of the offense.
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

I agree. He doesn't do it all the time, but he seems to be hesitating a bit. And the thing is, he does make those shots at a pretty good percentage, so he should keep taking those open shots.

And as you said, MyInsatiableOne, even if he misses sometimes, it'll open things up for the rest of the team. OTOH, if he keeps turning down those shots, the Pistons don't have to guard him and the rest of the team is playing 4-on-5.

I agree with putting Sam out there. He should be more successful in this series then other ones because Atlanta gave him problems due to their athleticism and Cleveland gave him problems because he couldn't do anything with Lebron James guarding him.

Against Detroit, we can put him on Lindsey Hunter on the defensive end and he can post up either Hunter or Stuckey which he is best at. He'll also do a better job of getting the ball up the court and getting us into our offense. I felt that House was the better option in the first 2 series, but he struggles against Hunter and Cassell is probably the better option at backup pg against Detroit. Lastly, if Detroit has Hunter/Stuckey in the backcourt, I wouldn't mind seeing Cassell/House out there as well.
