Tony Allen

We need him.

If you remember the first game we played in Detroit this year, TA played a big game for us. His defense would be huge, especially with guys getting tired legs after 2 seven game series. He's probably the only guy on the team that can D up Stuckey.

It's a shame Doc didnt play him earlier in the playoffs, because its gotta be tough to come in and produce on the big stage without being acclimated.

Based on what I saw last night and at the end of the Cleveland series, I would like to see him rot at the end of the bench the rest of the season.

Did you know I did a shot-fake in front of my TV and Tony Allen bit on it?

Tony Allen is terrible. He shouldn't be near the court.

Anyone else see him fall for EVERY pump fake? But yeah, he's great.

You are all missing the point. Of course its going to be tough to come in for the first time in the ECF and play comfortably. He has no rhythm. Doc should've realized we would need him at some point and played him earlier. Tony doesn't suck, he played bad, but he is capable of being a huge contributor. To ignore that is ignorant.

Even when Tony went for a pump fake he disrupted a shot. People would rather see Posey get burnt by Billups, Hamilton, and of all people a rookie in Stuckey, but you will still find a way to put Tony down. Why don't you call out who played terrible, or is it that you don't see the same game that I do.

No one else on this team can guard Stuckey, with the exception of Rondo.

I think TA can be useful in this series against Rip, Stuckey or Billups. IMO, he has the best combination of size, speed and athleticism among the guys who could guard one of those guys. Yes, he did bit on a few pump fakes, but at least he can make them work to get open.

TA is going to need a bit to get his game going. The biting on pump fakes is a problem though.

man im taking names of all y'all tony bashers. when he signs with chicago next year, starts, and gets on 2nd team all-defense, ill be there to throw a big "i told ya so" cross ya face.

I think that the biting on pump fakes is partly a result of TA sitting on the bench for a long period of time, then getting a lot of adrenaline when finally getting out on the court and wanting to make a spectacular play...like a block to show that he deserves more minutes. I don't mind seeing TA out there as much, but I don't want to have TA and Rondo out there at the same time since their defense just collapses and dares either to shoot the jumper.

Jesus christ he played 4 minutes last night, a total of 25 seconds in the 5 games before that, and people are criticizing him for being antsy and leaving his feet on fakes.

EXACTLY!
hes knows he is only getting a minute or 2, so he knows he has to do something (a block or a steal) that will get him more burn later.
its completely normal.

right now id rather have TA out there than RA

Here here. If our defense is too porous, you put defenders on the court.

Tony is a defender. (even if he is bone-headed)

Poor Tony. He make some smart plays too - though no one seems to notice them nowadays.. It's a shame this guy never got going. He could have been the X factor for us..

Exactly! You can't sit a player for that many games and then expect he will come in and play great. He needs to be getting a few minutes all along. Doc doesn't know how to rotate at all.....

Totally agree, great slasher, rebounder, steals the ball well, has a decent shot. Untapped resource.

He came back a whole lot better than I thought he would regarding quickness. His first step is a whole lot quicker than most defenders.

Someone else will make use of him, that's for sure. :nonono:

I concur. Give him a go against Stuckey. Tony can still drive to the basket like Pierce and draw a foul. Tony simply needs some minutes to rediscover his confidence. Otherwise, you're wasting a defensive player on the bench with Rivers having no guard who can guard Stuckey. Ray Allen and Cassell don't look as if they can stay in front of him. Uncertain of whether or not House or Rondo could guard him. He's too tall and too strong of a guard.
