Just imagine not winning the Finals for a second.

In the beginning of the year many of us were in a state of euphoria because the Red Sox, Patriots,
and the C's were each going to win us a championship, for sure.
Then
(18-1) happened. I went into a deep depression and I have yet to speak about the game in real life. Our self proclaimed Titletown was quickly on it's way to becoming Failville. The Patriots and their fans were mocked incessantly for months, on the internet and in real life. It's starting to get better - you can mention the Patriots, and people won't just bust out laughing like the first few months after the game.
But anyways, can you imagine how you would feel if the Celtics fail? I would surely go into a deep depression for at least a coupe of months. I might never talk about it. It will ensure Boston's new name - Failville. We will hear all about how our team was never really a legit title contender and how we were successful purely because we play in the east. In the eyes of ESPN, our team will suddenly become too old to contend, we will have no bench again. Rondo's won't be able to shoot anymore. Basically every criticism from the beginning of this season will all resurface.
I'm getting worked up just thinking about it.
P.S. If you're an optimist and refuse to think about the Celtics losing, predict how many games it will take the Green to win the Finals.

If we don't make it, try what I did after the Pat's lost: Don't watch espn anymore, they suck anyways and the hype about **** like that will drive you mad. I still don't watch sportcenter and porbably won't until the Pats start playing regular season games.

Your way to sensitive dude. Pats 'mocked' incessantly? By who teams that DIDN'T go 18-1. LMAO. Pats were the second best team in the league - I can live with that. Only Giants fans have any bragging rights on us..
As for losing in the finals? Again so what... I really enjoy BEING in the postseason and having a shot and success rather then getting kicked out in the first round.
Some people say that "second place" is worse then not placing in the race at all. I call BS on that - and ignore the lame antics of ESPN.

All I think about is winning the next game in DET.
I don`t care about baseball, I don`t care about football it is just the Celtics for me. I believe in this team. I believe we can go all the way. Step by step, game by game. Winning is the only option.

Losing in the finals for me would be bitter. Lakers taking a lead on us in championships. Jackson overtaking a record that Red loved.
If we somehow lose this series I'm definately pulling for Detroit.

Yeah I exaggerated a little for the sake of the thread. But if you've recently gone on vacation to a big football city, you know to hide your Beantown accent because the first questions from locals will be "You from NE?", "You a Patriots fan?"

As a Pats fan I get a LOT more ribbing about spygate than losing the SB.
THere are about 30 other teams who would love to be in the position of losing a SB. It's better to have loved and lost....
I didn't expect the C's to win it all this year. Too much inexperience. The C's are having to learn to play with each other on the fly, in the playoffs. So far it's gone OK but it only gets harder each round. If they make it to the Finals I will be very happy. If they win it all I'll be ecstatic. If they don't then it's still been a very good year. We've got another 2-3 years of quality ball with this unit. I'm sure we'll be back.

Whatever, I'm a Cleveland Indians and Browns fan, '86 is the last time one of my teams won a championship. With all the titles the Patriots and Red Sox won, even if the Celtics don't win, it's complete arrogance to complain about lack of success for Boston as a whole.

This Celtics team has gone where I've expected them, and the 3 teams left are GOOD teams, so while there will be disappointment if they don't win the whole thing, I won't be suicidal or anything like that. It's been a great season.

Same thing for me, LETS GO CELTS!

we would still have one more championship than the Lakers 16 to 15
Phil would pass Red with 10
But lets worry about
IF that happens, and thats a big if since we are in control of this series

and I have a tough time seeing the Lakers beating us in a 7 game (cross-country) series

Prepare yourself for it now then because the Lakers are a better team. The Celts could win it all, anything can happen, but the Lakers will be and should be the favorites.

IF we don't win this season won't be a failure. This team was assembeled in the off-season. For them to go that far in their first season would a be a great sign for the future as in the next 2-3 years.

I perfectly agree.

exactly how I feel. none of it bothered me. I would take 18-1 every season. better than being out in the first round every year.
I don't expect the celts to win it all this season. its alot to ask of a first year team. can they do it and do they have the talent ? for sure!!!!
but be realistic. this team has had one year together. they will only get better with each year till they run out of gas (age).
I am already happy with what they celtics have done. expectations have been high and not exactly fair to the team. but hard not to with such talent. still, you have to remind yourself its the first year.

I will be significantly more miserable if we lose to LA than to the Spurs or even Detroit, but that is based upon my hatred for the Lakers and in particular Kobe.
But the reality is that this season has been such a turnaround from where we were just after the lottery last year that I am pretty happy with anything we get from this point on. That being said, since we are good enough to win it all it would be pretty disapointing not to do so.

I guess not winning it all shouldn't be considered a failure for this season, but at this point there is no reason to not think we should. I dont think I'm just being a homer when I say that we are clearly better than Detroit. We were during the regular season and we are now. I think that we'll at least finish the series in 7 if not sooner. I also think we should beat LA or SA. I think we just have too much and unless the team goes in a serious slump we will get it done.
I've expected a Boston/LA matchup for a while now and it looks to me like my predictions have been right on and I still expect this matchup. I think it would be great for the NBA. Hopefully we get there and pull it out. I dont think it is going to get any easier and if we can win 1 now then anything more in the coming seasons would just be gravy.
So on second thought I guess I would be pretty disappointed. We have way too much talent to not win it all and we've shown that we dont need more than 1 season to gel. The supporting cast may or may not get better in the coming seasons, but we have too many damn weapons and a dominant defense to not get it done.

Don't get me wrong - I'd be disappointed if we didn't win it all. I think the C's are the best team. But my point is that this idea that if your team DOESN'T win it all they are total failure and they might as well be in the lottery is what I take issue with.
Having a good team - means more playoff games which I enjoy watching and of course a better chance at a championship. It's FUN to have your team in contention. The Bill Simmons and some other people don't seem to get that.
It's the same with the Pats. They didn't win it all - but they were still damn good and for me it was fun to watch (except for the Super Bowl which was a downer)

I totally agree and even if we come up short I definitely have no regrets. Even if the big 3 never win one it will all be worth it to me, but yeah you better believe I'll be disappointed. At least the Pats have a lot of recent success to take the sting away. The Pats probably would have won if they played a 7 game series in football because they were the better team so at least the C's have that going for them. Its not even just the fact that I'd be disappointed because the C's didn't raise banner 17. I really want some of these players to finally win one and I know how much it would mean to them.
