TA the KobeStopper

Post#1 » by SLCceltic » Sun Jun 1, 2008 1:39 am

TA really disrupts kobe
He actually started that game in LA this year on Kobe; i will never forget him pinning the ball on the backboard when kobe took it strong on him

TA took him out and we won by almost 30-------maybe it was the shorts

I will be absolutely shocked if he doesnt play much in this series
Doc better not be scared to play him.

Keep in mind that he's injured. He might not play until late in the series

Tony Allen won't be back this season. He may be okay to go late in the series, but I heavily doubt Doc Rivers will play him so late in the series.

According to the herald tony went to practice today, but couldn't get any real lift on his jumper. If he's already trying to play, ot doesn't sound like it's that bad of an injury and might even be healed by next week.
Tony on Kobe, start watching at 3:00

call someone a kobe stopper and see what happens. Who was the last kobe stopper??!?!?! I think his name was ruben patterson. After being labeled the kobe stopper, the next time they played, kobe went nuts. Like someone said earlier there is no kobe stopper. Esp now with the new defense rules. GL though from a pacer fan.

I was thinking Posey on Odom, Pierce on Kobe.

And Ray, who's Ray guarding? Unfortunately this ain't football. Doc has to have Ray defending someone if he's going to play, and Doc hasn't shown much interest in curbing his minutes under any circumstances.

Well it means nothing for the playoffs but Ray did a good job staying right on Kobe's shooting hand in both games during the season.

That was a different Laker team of course and a playoff series is very different than a one night stand during the season but Ray and Kobe are not exactly drinking buddies and I personally doubt Ray will embarrass himself on D.

Far more than most teams the Celtics play a switching defense so it is not like Ray and Kobe are a traditional head-to-head matup.

I suspect the series will hinge on how well the Celtics defend the triangle offense, how much help Kobe gets scoring-wise, and what happens in the paint.

IMO the Celts must win games 1 and 2.

I like Tony Allen but he has been a non-factor in the playoffs and I doubt Doc will play Tony much in the finals even if he is ready physically.

Thanks for the Ray/Kobe perspective, I didn't see either game they played.

As to Tony, unfortunately he always plays with extreme rust when coming back from a layoff, doesn't sound healthy enough to see the floor anyway, and of course didn't have a great year. I think he'll just be leaving the C's in whimper after the season. Too bad.

he's both
he impacts both ends of the floor

his decision making and handles need to improve dramatically to become a highly successful starter

With our help defense being as good as it is, I would rather have a bigger defender that won't let him shoot over the top easily. I'd rather see Pierce and Posey on him. They aren't great lateral defenders, but will take away his jumper.
