Do you think Tony Allen is really injured??

Post#1 » by Jammer » Tue Jun 3, 2008 12:40 am

Tony seemed to play so well against the Lakers, being able to get to the rim at will against Derek Fisher or Jordan Farmer when Rajon Rondo was out.

Tony's size and quickness are valuable defensively.

I hate to think that the C's would shelve with his RFA coming due this summer. Especially with a championship at stake, given the Laker top 12, I'd rather see Glen Davis on the inactive list than Tony.

Anyone have any knowledge of this achilles injury?

How's Tony been walking.? Dancing ???

I have no knowledge but he has been injured a lot and adding Veal to the roster is not the kind of thing the Celtics are likely to fake an injury to accomplish.

According to the ESPN article he couldn't even make it thru the walk-thru. I seriously doubt our organization would try to save a couple of bucks and sabotage our opportunity to win a title. This ownership group has already proved they are highly committed to #17.

It's really too bad for him, I think he would have gotten good mins against the Lakers.

This is from another current thread:

When I read that the first thing I thought was that maybe he's actually OK to go and Doc doesn't want to show his cards. Not that the Lakers are going to be preparing for Tony Allen or anything, but TA could be a difference maker with his defense on Kobe if he is healthy.

After everything that has happened this year, wouldn't it be ironic if Tony was a the dark horse hero of the finals and ended up making a big difference in the series? I'm not saying I seriously think that would happen, but I've been a TA freak since he came here and would love to be pumping my fists watching that guy do one of his spectacular steal & dunk routines when it really counts.

It'd be a good trick, but I don't think it's made up. Sounds like he still might be back by Thursday though. He seems to keep trying it out every couple of days. MIGHT is the key word in this article.

Here's the AP article
WALTHAM, Mass. -- Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers says Tony Allen might not be back from an injury to guard Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant when the NBA Finals begin Thursday night.

"It doesn't look good," Rivers said after practice on Monday. "He couldn't get through even the walkthrough portion."

Allen had some success against Bryant in the regular season, but the Celtics guard injured his Achilles tendon in a post-practice pickup game during the Eastern Conference finals and hasn't played since.

Allen started the regular-season game against the Lakers in Boston on Dec. 30 -- one of just 11 games he started this year -- and helped hold the NBA MVP to 22 points on 6-for-25 shooting.

"He's played good in two games against the Lakers," Rivers said. "But if he's not healthy, he's not healthy."
