This is what happens when you are a young, dynamic PG who reaches the Finals in just his 2nd season. The only thing I fear is that Rondo will go from underexposed and underrated to overexposed and overrated. I hope he works as hard this offseason to continue to improve as he did last year.
Last year:
Rondo jumper eFG% = 32.7%
This year
Rondo jumper eFG% = 42.2%
That, my friends, is improving by leaps and bounds. We might not think he's a reliable shooter, but compared to last year he has become FAR better. Heck, Lebron's eFG on jumpers is under 40%, so he makes Rondo look like Steve Kerr! Let's hope he can continue to improve that. He doesn't have to be a 3-point threat, but if he can get his eFG on jumpers up around 45-47%, he can become a real threat to opponents.
FWIW, here's Tony Parker vs. Rajon Rondo at age 21:
Parker:
15.7 PER, .48% eFG, 28.7% AST%, 104 ORtg, 99 DRtg
14.7 PPG, 5.5 APG, 3.2 RPG, .8 SPG, 2.4 TO/G, 34 MPG
Rondo:
15.6 PER, .496% eFG, 28.2% AST%, 107 ORtg, 98 DRtg
10.6 PPG, 5.1 APG, 4.2 RPG, 1.7 SPG, 1.9 TO/G, 30 MPG
Pretty promising if he works hard; I don't think he'll ever be quite the scorer Parker is, but his playmaking, rebounding, and defensive skills can make him just as deadly of a player for the opposition.
