I don't usually like the stuff he writes, but I thought this was really, really good. Garnett may be a leader in the locker room and in practices, but Paul Pierce is the true leader of this team on the court.

That question by Mark Jackson at the end is CLASSIC.
Scoop has a good article in him occasionally, but IMO he tries to get too poetic at times with his pauses and his excessive use of literary devices. This was definitely one of his better pieces of late, although that may be skewed IMO because it was a puff piece on my favorite player.

I'm a Laker fan and coming into this series Pierce was definitely the Celtic that worried me the most. Part of that is because of the matchup problem but mostly because I thing that Pierce is the Celtics best offensive player. Garnett definitely has the most impact on the defensive side and does seem to be the emotional leader but if I was a Celtic fan (God forbid) Pierce would absolutely be the guy that I would want taking the last shot. But since I'm a Laker fan hopefully if it comes down to one shot for the Celtics I'm hoping that it will be a Scott Pollard 3 pointer.

The truth is that although Garnett might be the savior, The Truth is something more. This is how divine order in Boston works: A guy from the same Inglewood neighborhood as the Forum, a player who, if the Celts win, will be mythically dubbed and crowned "the greatest player ever to come out of L.A." would be the one to restore order to their championship heritage and tradition.
can someone explain this part? it confused me immensely

^He's saying that it's unexpected that a kid who grew up around the forum, hating the Celtics, could be the one to bring them back to greatness. He's also implying that maybe there is some mystical significance to this fact.
Boston kinda has a history of believing in curses, and a supernatural impact on sports. I remember when the curse of the Bambino was reversed people were saying it was for various things that happened, like finding a 1918 penny.

Its where the Lakers played before the Staples Center.
Heres my favorite part of the story because it shows what Pierce means to teammates.
"Standing out on the team like Johnny Gill's voice in New Edition, the one called The Truth has made it abundantly clear that for the Celts in this series, everything will ride or breathe its last breath with him. Through him. Which is why when asked after the game about what Pierce said to him just before he went back on the court during his Willis Reed remix, Celtics reserve Tony Allen said, "He said, 'I'm back. Let's ride, killa!'" Then Allen said as passionately as someone could only about his leader, "I could see it in his eyes, he willed himself back. You know, that's The Truth, man! That's The Truth!"

This is my favorite part of the article:
Just hearing that from Magic of all people, a Laker great, kinda gave me chills.
"It's his leadership," Johnson says before he's taken away. "His leadership and his defense are finally coming through. There are two players in this series that can't be stopped, that's Kobe and Paul. And Paul wants it. I can see it in him now, he wants greatness."

"I told the Patriots the No. 1 thing they need to do is be kind to each other. When I line up next to you in the defensive line, you must have both the ability and the desire to help me"

Pierce is a straight up warrior of this game but people need to stop saying it's all up to him to lead us. Or it's all up to Garnett to lead us. It's up to Pierce, Garnett, and Allen to lead us. They have the shared responsibility to lead the team. All 3 have to play well and for stretches carry the team. It's not just Pierce's team or Garnett's team or Allen's team. It's the Boston Celtics. Everyone has to help lead in one way or another.
My Starting 5:
PG: Allen Iverson
SG: Paul Pierce
SF: Kevin Durant
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Patrick Ewing
