ya that surprised me too, i know IND is his team now, but hes a Celtic for life. i wonder if he talked to anyone on the team, maybe give Pierce a phone call or something. something to motivate the team.

Bird is not showing up because this is not about him. He does not want to take away from this Celtics team's achievements by parading around pretending that there is some common thread. The only thread is that these are the Celtics. That's it. Respect the man's decision.

I know who he is and what he means to the fans, but he doesn't mean that to these players. Beyond that he is the President of another team, he actually can't be calling them on the phone.

I believe he said he won't be coming to the games, but will be watching them on TV. I don't blame him. He is a president of another franchise, so if i was a Pacer fan i would not be happy if he was spending time in Boston instead of trying to trade O'Neal and preparing for the Draft. Last year would you have wanted Danny Ainge hanging out in Arizona during the playoffs? I certainly would not have liked it.

Bird has no relationship with any of the players on the team. The last Celtic he had a relationship with was Antoine and Bird was long gone before Pierce came on board. Plus Bird is classy enough to stay out of the way so that these players can have their moment in the sun. Bird knows it's not about him, so leave him alone.
