Points in the paint question.

If a player is fouled on a drive, and makes FTs do those count as points in the paint? They don't right? I'm posing the question because my friends, Lakers fans, as well as posters on other forums I frequent are whining incessantly about the officiating tonight. Their main case is that LA had more points in the paint than Boston (a whopping 2 more!!!!!) and far less free throws. However, this makes sense since the Celtics got fouled on their drives and LA didn't, unless my logic fails and FTs stemming from a foul on a drive count as points in the paint.

Correct. Those don't count.

LA got some points in the paint early from Gasol when they attacked the basket and the C's didn't defend it very well. Then they got a handful of uncontested dunks - a dump down to Gasol off a high low play after Kobe was trapped, a couple alley-oops to Turiaf, a breakaway dunk from Radmanovic, and a couple put backs in close. It wasn't like they were pounding it inside or getting to the rim off the dribble (Kobe did get to the rim once - on the play he got the T - but that might have been it).
