Play Leon

Powe should get no less than 20 minutes over the next stretch of games left in the Finals. He is THE low post presence the team needs, mainly because KG simply doesn't feel the urgency to get in there and get the job done. And that's fine, he is the team's catalyst defensively, our best rebounder, one of the best passing bigs ever, and he can nail the jumper with consistency most nights. We need KG on the floor, obviously, but Leon Powe brings that physical beastliness in the paint that makes the LA players fall to the wayside. He will get it done and be that low-post presence. There should be no excuses for him to be sitting the bench, there never really was a reason to be sitting him in the first place. There is a definite role for Leon Powe on this team; let him play.

I'd go a step farther and say that we become more aggressive when Leon's in the game as opposed to KG. But don't forget Perk. He, too, can dominate his position in this series. Our frontcourt advantage in this series is criminal, really. If Perk from the Detroit series shows up in LA, Pierce will get his first Finals MVP trophy in front of his home crowd. That would be sweet.

Last night when the lead was slipping I would have loved to see Powe come back in. He had already got an ovation and took a seat so the place would have went nuts if he came back in.

Again the issue isn't Leon on offense it is Leon on defense. He had 4 fouls in less than 15 mins and only had 2 rebounds. It was fun as hell to watch offensively but Radmanovich is a bad match up for him. I think that someday Leon is going to be a very good defender at the SF spot but just not in this NBA finals. Unless Turiaf or Walton are on the floor I just don't know who Leon can guard.

I'm not sure I'd put him at SF defensively... He doesn't appear to have the lateral quickness to guard SFs like say.... Joe Johnson, for example...
Either way, learning defensive schemes is certainly a hard thing to do, and that comes with time. But he's not SO bad defensively that he's a negative on the floor overall... unlike say.... Sam Cassell....

Powe is a perfect fit against the Lakers because they aren't used to defending against a player who can score from in the paint.
Leon is always playing around the basket and gets tons of easy feeds from the Big 3. I will scream if Leon doesn't see PT in Game 3.

Yes, I agree that Radmanovich is a bad match up for Leon. But Leon is bad match up for Radmanovich too.
I would like to see Leon get more minutes against the Lakers as well. BUt I agree, his perimeter defense needs work.

That's not true. Gasol did a decent job on Duncan. And Turiaf did a good defensive job on Duncan play year.

Odom and Turiaf had more trouble with Powe than Radmanovich. That is sort of were the worm turned in the game they let Vlad go to the PF spot against Leon and that is when he started to go to work. 13/10 and a +10 for the game. Leon scored 21 points in 15 min and was still only +6.
I don't care if Leon plays more or less I think it is just worth understanding the situation. Against guys who are 6'10"-11' and quicker than him with more range is just not necessarily going to end well just because Leon has heart.

...

...blinded still by your pre-season decision making...Powe was clearly the dominant force...+/- is only as good as the players you're playing with and the effort they're putting out...Radmonovic did almost zero meaningful damage in the game...his numbers were hollow and created in the 4th quarter when the Celtics topped playing defense...
Powe's ability to get to the line and put up amazing efficiency numbers is now a 2 year NBA trend...he has consistently produced points and rebounds at a steady rate regardless of PT...as a second year player, he is on track to be a helluva player...
..SF?!?

...Leon has gotten much better at not over-committing on the perimeter and has had some good possessions against LeBron and Kobe by keeping his feet moving and maintaining space and balance, but he ain't going to be a SF anytime soon...

i agree with this except for powe being a small forward. i just don't see him as a small forward. maybe if he regains his explosiveness. he's a classic tweener. i like leon, but in doses, doc can maximize his production.

I am not blinded by anything. I am not the one that claimed Leon Powe can play center. It is the great thing about this board what you write is there to be read. I said he has to play the 4 and we happen to have an All NBA player at the position. Were was the "I told you so" while he was racking up single digit mins and DNP's over the last 11 playoff games?
Leon had a great game and the reason I bring up the SF spot, and as I said it isn't going to happen in the NBA finals, is that he will have to develop the ability to guard at the 3 to earn more mins in the league because his going to have match up problems at the 4 and he can't play significant mins at the 5.

I really don't think the Radmanovic numbers mean anything going towards Powe getting time on the floor. For Boston, he's a positive (and I'm not talking about from an 82games.com perspective). He provides an interior offensive threat that the team is lacking, and it's something that can be exploited against the opponent. Defensively, yes he shouldn't be out on the perimeter too often, he's better on the blocks. So having him sub for KG and Perkins and fitting him into the rotation that way would be a good way to go about it, IMO.

Considering Pierce and KG had horrible games, and Rondo was on a bum knee, why would Leon Powe, the guy who just scored 21 points the previous game, only get 6 minutes the very next game? Confusing.

Yeah bad move by Doc with Leon.
But at the same time I think he just played KG a lot so.. whatcha ganna do?
Powe did well in those 6 minutes though. Odom looked frustrated with him when he fouled him and Powe drew a charge on him.

Perk played 14 1/2 minutes more, Powe played 8 1/2 minutes less, Brown played 5 minutes more, and Garnett played 3 minutes less.
I hope you don't have a problem with Perk getting minutes over Powe. I don't see what Rondo or Pierce have to do with it. And I doubt you're seriously suggesting that Powe should play over Garnett.
So is your beef that Brown got way more minutes than Powe?
