No Such Thing as a Moral Victory in the Playoffs

I just wanted to start this thread to remind any Celtic fan fretting over how we gave away a 24 point lead. The reality is that we WON. In the end, nobody will care that the Lakers made a fast and furious comeback against a lackadaisical defense. They set a record for 3PT FGs made in a 4th quarter, and STILL could not come back. The reality is that, despite hitting everything under the sun for a full 12 minutes, the Lakers could not get over the hump, and are down 2-0.

Don't look at 6 minutes of a series. Look at the 96 minutes played. In that time, Boston has outrebounded, outhustled, and outdefended LA. The Lakers might outshoot them, but if Boston continues to play D they way they do and go to the hoop, they will be in every one of these games. There has been nothing that has made me believe LA can make a sustained, 4-game attack on Boston to win this series. They may outgun us for a game, maybe two, but unless they make stops a LOT more than they have, Boston will match them shot for shot, and take much higher percentage shots as well.

Well, in any case, I'll agree that what the Lakers did on offense will be completely unsustainable. I'm glad it happened when we were up 20+ and not the middle when we were up 7.

Lakers made 7/8 3's in the 4th. They resorted to chucking and were rewarded. Don't expect it to happen again.

Either the Lakers will win 4 of the next 5 games, or else the Celtics will win the series.

I like those odds. :)

The Celtics now have to make sure they don't lose 4 out of the next 5 games, and they'll win the championship.

I agree, the Lakers gave their best shot (which was historically good, as in 'never done before', 3pt shooting) and they still lost.

Our D is going to be more consistent than 7/8 3pters every quarter, unless we take our foot of the pedal like we did in the fourth.

That was inexperience, and we survived it.

Exactly. Aberration shooting got them back in. If they missed even 2 of those 3-pt shots, they lose by double digits easily.

If the Celtics play their defense, they'll be set. I'm pretty sure they've learned their lesson about letting up now.

I figured it would be a good time to bump this thread, because there seems to be too many people a bit too confident after last night's loss because of how bad Pierce and KG played, and yet we still had a chance to pull it out. It doesn't matter. We lost. There are no moral victories.

They need to regroup and come back strong tomorrow night. Because it wasn't just Pierce and KG having off shooting nights. The entire offense was off. We got bailed out with some great shooting by Ray. But the spacing was bad and the ball movement was bad.
