Pierce had all the flash but Allen was Mr. Consistent this series. He gets my vote.

Pierce will get it, but really all 3 deserve it.

I went with Pierce, in part because he has been the face of our franchise for so long. He really deserves it for that reason alone. But he also wins it on merit. He really has become a complete player this year. And he did it the old fashioned way, through hard work. It's been one or two things a year that he's perfected, and this year it all worked together. And he had so much desire to bring a championship to Boston. He would not be denied.

Next year, if we win again, I think that people will be able to look more objectively at KG and Ray Allen's contributions. I give those two guys all the credit in the world. In some ways, it was a lot harder for them to move to a new environment and away from franchises that they were loyal to than it was for Paul Pierce to stay with the commitment that he already had. Next year it will be more like they're Boston guys, and not just hired guns.

Pierce. No question. He's done what he's always been able to do, but now he was on a team worthy of his abilities.

From Robert Smith

"HAT A TEAM!!! WHAT A MAGNIFICENT ANNIHILATION OF THE FAKERS. I HAVE BEEN WAITING 22 YEARS FOR THIS. PAUL DESERVED THE MVP HANDS DOWN, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. HE WAS ALSO THE MVP OF THE PLAYOFFS. SOME GAMES HE COMPLETELY DOMINATED, AND OTHERS HE WAS THE CONSUMMATE TEAM PLAYER. HE OUTPLAYED LEBRON IN AN EPIC GAME 7. HE OUTPLAYED KOBE FOR THE ENTIRE FINALS. HIS OFFENSE WAS SPECTACULAR WHEN IT NEEDED TO BE AND HIS DEFENSE WAS CONSISTENTLY SUPERLATIVE. HE IS WITHOUT A DOUBT IN THE SAME CONVERSATION AS KOBE AND LEBRON AS THE BEST OVERALL WING IN THE LEAGUE. AND NOW THE WHOLE COUNTRY KNOWS IT. HIS MVP AWARD WAS NOT IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM A "LONG-TERM" SERVICE AWARD. HE DESERVED EVERY BIT OF IT BY HIS PLAY. MANY OF US ON THIS BOARD HAVE ALWAYS KNOWN THIS - SOME HATERS STILL DO NO GET IT. I DO NOT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THESE DELUDED "UNDERAPPRECIATORS" - ONE OF THEM IN PARTICULAR. I AM NOT MINIMIZING IN ANY WAY THE PHENOMENAL PLAY OF RAY AND KG. THEY WERE AWESOME WHEN THEY HAD TO BE, AND PAUL COULD NOT HAVE LED US TO THE TITLE WITHOUT THEM. BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT, PAUL **** PIERCE IS THE **** TRUTH, AND THE **** MVP OF THE NBA FINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not bad for another bozo on the bus, huh, Rondo_F. And, by the way, we did not lose Game 5 because he took over the game with his superlative play. He had to. KG was playing small and Ray was off. Without him that game, we get crushed. "

Why so angry? You should be happy. There was no individual MVP that deserved this award, the Celtics played team ball all finals they were dominant offesively and defensively. The entire team picks everyone up I can't remember a team that plays off each other like they did, every day it's a different guy. Their defense confused and frustrated a young, soft, Laker team. The Lakers really didn't fight until game 5. Game 3 Kobe was incredible, and Sasha had the playoff game of his life, other than that horrible effort by the Lakers. They learned a lot from the Celtics, especially if you can't play some fn' D, get the F out.

Posey gets little love, but he was like the 4th best player for the C's, consistant from game one to six, his best year ever.

If I had to give the MVP to someone I'd give it to KG. Pierce had a couple great especially offensive games, and played some nice D, but KG played his butt off and anchored the C's D beautifully all series, he was your C and your PF in the frontlines, especially when Perk became ineffective due to injury. Pierce is the sexy pick, but if you watched close enough, KG would be your choice.

I was very impressed with the C's performance. The schooling should benefit the Lakers quite a bit, gut check for next year. Play D of bounce.

You can't say that on this board.

Yes, every commentator in every country and continent that loves basketball knows that we won this series because of our defense, but that doesn't fit in with the local mythology of it's all about a long-time soldier getting his due.

I questioned Pierce being the captain early in the season as Garnett stole the show, setting the tone for killer defense and aggressive play on the offensive side of the floor.

With the banner being hoisted, Pierce was the Captain of this bunch, took the team on his shoulders on both ends when it was needed and pretty much led us to the series win over the Lakers.

All of that leadership that he's had to build when we sucked helped create the leader that he is today. He is a Celtic Great.

I only wish my wife would stop muttering Paul Pierce in her dreams, 8 months of that.....enough already. :o

I'm really glad that other fans can finally see just how good of a player Paul Pierce is for the Celtics. He's been overlooked for way too long on bad teams. He really stepped up when his team needed him the most. Very happy for Pierce to get the monkey off his back.

You can make a case for all of them.

Clutch offense and defense= Pierce
Overall defense= KG
Overall Offense= Tie, Pierce and Ray

They all are worthy, but as the chants in the garden say MVT! MVT! MVT!

It's great we have a serious debate about this. I think Pierce won it (deservingly) because he was the alpha dog of the C's. When the going gets tough he is always the guy the team seems to believe in. Not just with his scoring but his playmaking and defense..

What's great about Pierce's game is that he resisted the hero mentality that the media craves. He would look to his teamates in clutch moments and not just his own scoring.

That being said the idea that he has grown so much and so on is overplayed. I think he played smarter but he had a better opportunity to do that because his teamates were so much better. It's like how Barkley explains that no he really wasn't better when he got to play with Hakeem. His teamates were better though..
