Perk a Celtic for life?

Post#1 » by captain_cheapseats » Wed Jun 18, 2008 6:26 pm

Anyone else catch the interview with Perk and Wyc on New England Cable News where Wyc seemed to insinuate that Perk is going to be a Celtic for a very, very long time? If so, can you verify that I heard correctly, as I was flipping rapidly through all the stations covering the post game at the time.

Also, what do people think? I for one thought it was awesome news, and think Perk will only get better and better. He's already a beast on defense and solid on the boards, and seems to have some offensive upside as well. Not a bad guy to have on your team for the next decade or so, IMO.

I didn't see it and believe Perk's already signed for the next few years, but it seems those who know him and basketball really appreciate his commitment and contributions. (E.g., see what KG has to say about Perk.) I'm glad Wyc was giving him some love, since he's the guy with the worrisome and painful injury--and he just sucked it up for the team. I expect they'll take good care of him and he'll be ready to go by the opening of training camp.

Perk is signed through 2011, making less than 5 million a year. (backup center money) In 2011 he'll be 27.

I sure expect him to be.

He still needs to mature -- fewer fouls, playing through pain, etc. But as good as he already is, he's unlikely to be traded. As good as I expect him to be, he's VERY unlikely to be traded.

You simply don't let a good center go, through trade or walk, unless you're getting a better center, or a much better player at another position. I don't think it will happen.

And by the way, letting Chandler go will be the clinching mistake the costs the Bulls championships.

we have spent so much time developing him, and he really didn't pay off until this year, I would hate to see him go and be productive for someone else.

He will be 27 in 2011. That's his prime. I think he will be a 10 ppg, 8 rpg 2 block guy in his prime. He will also erupt for some 20 15 games during that stretch. Love the guys work ethic. As long as the Celtics have a scoring PF, Perk will be fine.
