Trading for a 2nd Round Pick

Post#1 » by DynastyInTheMaking » Thu Jun 26, 2008 6:50 pm

Since well before the college season ended and it was clear how late our first round pick would be i have been preaching we should draft someone who everyone was picking to be a second rounder - Shan Foster of Vanderbilt. The kid is a shooter and being an understudy to Ray Allen and playing defense in practice everyday with this team cannot hurt his development into a more well rounded player. At the very least he should be similar to Kyle Korver who was another second round pick and had some good years in Phili and made quite the difference when traded to Utah.

It is now clear to me the kid won't be making it into the first round. A former trading partner of ours, Seattle, has 4 second round picks, they are obviously not going to keep all of them, I think we should trade maybe two future seconds for this kid. He is the real deal, if he doesn't make it in the league as at least a Kyle Korver/Matt Carroll type I will be shocked and again learning from Ray cannot hurt.

We could certainly use some wing depth so take the experienced collegiate player, his main asset can make a difference right now.

Not terrible. Maybe trade no. 60 and a future second to go mid second round.

I would like to trade #30 for two a second and a future second, or #30 and #60 for two seconds.

I'm glad to have the 30th pick. Ainge is great finding young talent in later rounds. Let's find some 4 year college player that everyone is looking past.

30th is better than the 31st too, small salary but first round contract gives us up to five years at a low salary

I don't think we can trade this year's pick as we have traded next year's and can't trade picks in back to back years. We could sell it for a future pick from someone wanting a certain player at 30.

We can trade the pick it isn't an issue. It is after 2pm anyhow so we would be trading the draft rights on the pick.

Ainge wants out of 30 because the value is draft and wait Euro's and locking them into late 1st round contracts means they are never coming over.

I would look for Ainge to dump 30 if anyone will take it and then try and get into the top couple of picks of the 2nd.

Foster is a good shooter but very limited player besides that there are much more versatile players in this draft.

I don't see Ainge just dumping the pick, as he will use it for a future asset which he has proven to be good at. He will either select a guy to help build as a future asset or trade it for a future first which is also an asset.

Well Ainge has never had the last pick of the first round with the talent, tax issues, and goals he has now. Beyond that when he doesn't like what he sees he gets out he can only evaluate it he can't make the players any better.

Because of that in the past championship teams have dumped these picks.

Looking at this draft, there is more than a good chance that an undrafted player will have as good a chance of playing mins next year and even sticking long term as the 30th pick it is just flat draft. Why not take the 400 grand non guaranteed guy?

I think he will just take one of these hyped Euro products and just kill their NBA rights if nothing else as opposed to draft and waive a kid.

But we will see. Perhaps he is bating POR to take a guy Batum in the first and leave a guy like Lee on the board.
