Draft Perspective

Post#1 » by Ricky_is_god » Fri Jun 27, 2008 4:08 pm

I'm sure many of you have had a thought similar to this one since the draft last night but I just wanted to put my feelings into words and see if you guys agree:

First of all, when we took giddens I was surprised, but the more I studied the more I liked him. I think he is ready to play right now. But like most people on this board I was hoping, nay expecting Bill Walker. Then, when most people were complaining about getting a guy at 30 we could have had later, we bought Bill Walker and I was thrilled. Look at it this way:

As far as I'm concerned we got two guys of similar talent, potential home runs and athletic bench players, but the order they came in was surprising. Until I saw this morning that Walker will be getting minor knee surgery in July. If the picks had been switched, and we drafted walker 30 and bought Giddens people would have been really happy. But the way Ainge did it was really smart, getting both guys, but giving the non-guaranteed contract to to the guy with a knee problem. And guaranteeing the contract of the college senior, the more sure thing.

I remember watching Giddens in the Mcdonalds dunk contest in 2003, and I have complete faith he can step right in and be our back up 2. As for Walker, he has been a favorite of mine for years, and I think he JR, and a re-signed Posey can man the back up wing spots. And I hope in a few years, when 34 is in the rafters, and Ray Ray is wearing a suit as an assistant coach, Giddens and Walker can be our starting 2 and 3. Rondo, Giddens, and a healthy Walker running the break is SCARY.

The more I read about giddens the pick makes all the sense in the world a college senior who might not have quite the upside but can contribute something right away. As for walker it is a high reward low risk definitely talent there but the knee injuries are question marks.
