After last night's draft we don't have room for all these athletic wings on our roster. Tony Allen has been given a lot of chances and simply hasn't produced except that one stretch during the 2006-2007 season in whcih he averaged 20ppg for a month. I would like to keep Tony but I feel Giddens is very similar and Walker has much more potential. With Pj Brown likely retiring I would definitely package TA and Scal for a legit backup center. Here are some options:
Mark Blount - 2 yrs left
Dan Gadzuric - 3 yrs left
Nazr Mohammed - 3 yrs left
Darko Milicic - 2 yrs left
Joel Pryzbilla - 3 yrs left
Blount I wouldn't touch as he has worn out his welcome in Boston. Gadzuric I would definitely take. He is athletic, an excellenmt shot blocker, and a solid rebounder. He has a limited offensive game. I think Milwaukee would do this too as they would save about 10 mil. Mohammed would be nice but he is the only backup center that the Bobcats have to Okafor and Okafor is always hurt as well. Milicic has no heart but at 23 yrs old does he still have potential? I wouldn't risk it even though he only has 2 yrs on his deal. Wallace will probably want to keep him and see if he can produce at that salary. Pryzbilla I would like to get as well. I think Portland might deal him too. This trade would save Portland 10 mil as well. Portland has Oden, Aldridge, Frye, and Lafrentz. Pryzbilla is overpaid but he is athletic, plays hard and is a great defender.

Why would you even mention Blount?
Plus, Walker won't see a minute of the C's (barring injury). He will be stashed in the D-League all year. And we don't know what we're getting from JR, so I personally want to keep Tony around. He'll be another year removed from the surgery, hopefully back to form.

Re: Sign and Trade TA and Scal Options
Tony STILL has as much upside as Giddens or Walker.
That said, I bet they'd like him to just accept a one-year deal. If Giddens beats Tony out for playing time next year, THEN they'll be happy to let him leave.

Re: Sign and Trade TA and Scal Options
Tony isn't coming back. He would probably rather go to a team were he can get minuets and show teams that he can be a scoring threat and a defensive stopper. In Boston he is stuck behind Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. If Posey is back, TA loses time to him as well. Tony isn't going to play point for this team. he knows his career would better be served taking a one year deal somewhere else and showing teams he deserves a long deal for good money.

Re: Sign and Trade TA and Scal Options
I don't think anyone will sign Tony to a deal big enough to be sufficient ballast to dump an unwanted salary on us; and including Scalabrine would probably defeat the purpose in dumping the salary.
Except, man, Gadzuric would kind of make sense - I think he'd be a better player than Voskuhl or Magloire or the other stiffs being discussed - and if Milaukee liked Tony, they'd actually be thrilled to swap Gadzuric's contract for Scal's shorter and smaller contract.
But I don't think we'd want Gadzuric with his contract and luxury tax implications, even if he is marginally better than other FA options.

Are there any back-up point guards available who could contribute more than Scalabrine?

Why do you even list Blount!
All the guys you listed make too much money, we will have to find someone for the vet minimum.
I am still hoping PJ comes back in March...

Re: Sign and Trade TA and Scal Options
I know we won the title and that our roster is getting deeper with the draft. But if a team refused to change it certainly would not stay at the top or reign as a dynasty. There will be a few Centers on free agentcy however I am not for sure just how many will be elgible for the Vet Min.
Randolph Morris from UK that currently is with the Knicks, he certainly has the body to back up Perk and he comes from a offensive system similar to Doc's from Tubby Smith's at UK. While he is also still young, and we also have Rondo that was a teamate with him at UK. However he is a restricted free agent and NY could counter but I don't see them wanting to retain him.
This Knicks staff has to make a decision and Morris imho does not fit into the Knick's system with there 1st round selection.
While he may not fall into the Vet min, and for some reason we don't retain Tony Allen, he might be something cheap we could use to help back up Perk.
As for Big Baby and Powe there trade values may never get any higher, Powes past and Baby's weight issue if I were Danny I would try to make a deal some where.
While another one of Rondo's teamate's will be a free agent with the Warriors in Keleena Azubuike he may not be a center however he is alot like Powe with his agility his strength and his defense. Unfortunatly in Nelson's system it's more about out scoring the opposing team. I would really like to see him on a team that does care about Defense and Rebounding.
Now In Memphis, they have some choices to make. Kwame Brown will be unristricted and while he may be in the class of the bad or the not so good. I believe Kwame may not get any more than the Vet min. and he would be nice role player to have on the roster if we did meet up with L.A. Again.
In Miami there is ZO and could he be retained like P.J. Brown was last year?
Charlotte they have Melvin Ely and while being a big body he has not shown and great skills.
However I expect that the Bobcats will resign him.
Ohh well maybe I got off topic..
