Lindsey Hunter is unrestricted, let's turn my hate to love!

Post#1 » by Bad-Thoma » Sun Jun 29, 2008 11:42 pm

I've always hated seeing Lindsey Hunter come on the floor, he is a game changer in the manner of Posey, not going to wow you with stats but can play D and has some 3 point ability. He was a pain in the ass in the playoffs as always, I'd love to see him be a pain in the ass in the playoffs in a green uniform next year. I don't pretend to know what he'll demand on the market but I can't imagine it'll be a lot, what's it take to make a run at him? 1 or 2 year deal of course, he's no spring chicken, but he'd fit about a 1000x better than Sam I Am.

On a side note, he sat a lot in Detroit this year due to the development of Stuckey and still came ready to play when it mattered, so if Gabe gets some minutes this year behing Rondo it's probably a non-issue. Just seems like a good fit.

I agree and I also believe that Hunter would be a much better fit for us than Sam, Hunter is an agressive defender that can give point guards trouble, and would be perfect for the defense oriented Celts. He would also be a valuable asset to our veteran leadership.

If the choice is between Sam and Hunter, I go with Hunter. If it's between Hunter and House, I'd rather have a shooter like House than another defender. At certain times we need to stretch the opponent's defense. Now if you find someone who can do both, go ahead and get him, but those guys don't usually come cheap. I believe that your bench players should be able to cover the weaknesses of the guy they are backing up.

I'm looking at it in terms of being cash strapped after Posey re-signs, there probably won't a lot to chose from. Eddie would be fine by me, I just cringe a little when I see him try to be a point guard and bring the ball across half-court against a guy like... well... Lindsey Hunter. Who is also a decent 3 point shooter, 38% career, he's enough of a threat that the D can't leave him alone around the arc. I did think House was better than advertised this year though, and with his ridiculously quick release he does make his man nave to play him. One more issue (real slight issue) with Eddie is the chance that Gabe does get some minutes this year, where does Eddie fit in? As a once in a while 3 point shooter coming cold off the bench? Or would you rather have a guy who can come in and burn up 5-10 seconds of the opponents shot clock making it hard to get the ball across half-court? The real question for me is what Hunter has left, but he is more in the mold of a PJ Brown, lunch pail player than someone who lives on his athletisicm, he's probably got a little gas in the tank. I guarantee Lindsey ends up getting signed by a play-off contender if the Pistons don't re-up him though.

Hunter has been in detroit 12 of his 15 years since he and allan houston were drafted together.HE ISN"T GOING ANYWHERE.

If Hunter wants to come to boston, fine, but i imagine he will re-up with detroit or retire.

Don't caps-lock at me, my friend. :P Yes, he could retire or re-sign with Detroit. However, if neither of those things happens.... see OP.

i think he's perfect for the celtics but he's already on the verge of being like an assistant coach for the pistons and he's been there for the most part of his career.

I would love to have Hunter on this team.

He's a true point guard, has championship experience, has been part of a great locker room in detroit, can make the open three, and can annoy the crap out of the opposing point guard. Best of all if we want to give Pruitt some burn Hunter's not going to start crying to whomever will listen (ala Sam, and House).

I'd be willing to let Sam & House go if we could sign him for the vet min. He's probably a slightly better 3pt shooter than sam, and a slight worse shooter than house. Sam wasn't enough of a team player for my liking and jacked up some ill advised shots. House couldn't get the ball up the floor and was basically the lesser of three evils (Himself, Rondo, and Cassel)in the finals. In the finals Doc had to choose between letting the Lakers sag of Rondo, letting Cassel try and take over the game by chucking the ball everytime he touched it, or put house out there to spread the floor and make Ray and PP create.

Hunter wouldn't have problems bringing the ball up like house would and wouldn't have trouble just running the play like House or Sam. While he's not as lights out as house you do have to respect his shot and another plus he's a better defender than both.
Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...

Hunter was already with the Celtics once. Besides, like Brown, he could retire if Detroit doesn't feel he has anything left. Hunter's a non point guard. I'd rather attempt to resign House in that case. If Jacque Vaughn were to opt out, I'd rather have him if not House.

Lindsey Hunter would never play for the Celtics. Sometime during the ECF a Detroit clip was played in which Hunter was saying how much he hated the Celtics and would never play for them.

People are forgetting how horrible he was overall in the playoffs. He had some decent defensive moments, but he was horrible at running the team.... just not good play from him overall. I'm surprised people want him. I'd rather have Eddie House.

Hunter only plays in very specific situations. During the season after he played great against us in teh first game he was promptley out of the rotation. He is only put in for rare occasions when his skill could be used.

So to get Hunter would be to get a backup PG that won't play. He made an appearance in 52 games this year, 30 the year before. And the increase may have to do with Stucky's injury more then anything.

We need a vet PG but one that can be counted on as the main backup all year long
