Just happened. Thoughts. Davis and Brand together (and healthy) could be lethal in an already loaded Western Conference.

Also, Corey Maggette is now officially gone as a Clipper. I still think we don't have the goods to get him though.

If they keep Maggs and rolled with Kaman/Brand/Thornton/Maggs/Davis they would be a sure fired playoff team for the next half a decade. They also have a nice future with Thornton/Gordan

They can't keep Corey and Brand according to ESPN.

Wow, that team has some serious talent now...should be fun to watch.

Kaman
Brand (as soon as he re-ups)
Thornton
Mobley
Baron

...with Eric Gordon coming off the bench. Let's just say I'll watch A LOT more Clippers basketball this year than I did last year.

Wait, why can't they do it? Unless they need to renounce Maggette or Brand to get under the cap in the first place to sign Davis. If they can sign Davis first, then they can just use the Bird rights for the other guys.

What if they can re-sign Maggette to a bargain deal? Then his cap hold would go back down to whatever the new contract is and maybe they'd be far enough to get Davis then? I guess that's unlikely.

I guess this is the real issue - I assume with Maggette's cap hold in effect they won't have the money for Davis.

Thats exactly what the need to do! Also I think there has been some talk of a Mobely for Jamal Crawford deal.

That's an awesome move for Baron, back to his hometown to play professionally. I'm not at all suprised this played out. I bet he has been on the phone with Pierce a lot in the past couple days. Clips will be a very exciting team to watch and play against next year.

This really screwed Maggette. No more sign and trade. Probably why Danny threw him a bone. Why not offer him the full MLE for max years and see if he bites. That is a STEAL for a player of Maggettes talent.

Great signing for the Clippers as long as Davis stays healthy and motivated. He's led some good teams in Charlotte/N.O. and even briefly in Golden State.

The Warriors got kind of screwed.

Davis
Mobley/Gordon
TThomas/Thornton
Brand
Kaman

is a playoff team if they stay healthy.

The Warriors also had a trade exemtion of 9.9mil. That they couldnt use because Davis was staying and that would have put them way over the cap but since he left the cannot use it because it expired Monday.

The Golden State Warriors = Owned

Seriously, how could they let this happen? Terrible management, that's probably why they've made the playoffs once out of what, 15-16 years?

Clippers got a top 8 PG for cheap money compared to what Arenas is going to get. He's from LA and will be a marketing darling down there I'd bet. If Brand is fully healthy and Kaman keeps his head on straight, they'll have a nice 3-headed monster there.

They need more though. They have absolutely no depth. Shaun Livingston is a total question mark. Eric Gordon is a rookie and likely being expected to be a 6th man from the outset. They need another true center, although I like Nick Fazekas a lot as a backup PF. Maybe Marcus Williams becomes a decent wing player, but probably not. Brevin Knight is nothing special, although he fits more on the bench than the starting gig he had last year.

If they can find a decent wing player to back up the 2 and 3, as well as a defensive big who can play hard and bring toughness down low, then they'll be in shape to contend for a spot in the 6-8 range out west.

As for GS, they got hosed, plain and simple. Letting Baron get away for nothing is a kick in the pants, especially for a team that really needs help with depth; even more now that Baron is gone and Pietrus looks a goner too.

Dont forget Al Thorton, who looked like a BEAST this year.

I wouldn't call him a beast, since he only shot 43% from the field and is not a good 3 point shooter at all yet. He's also a subpar defender right now. But yes, he looks very promising, and while he might not replace all of Maggette's production this year, 2-3 years from now he'll likely become a more powerful Shawn Marion type of guy, playing either the 3 or 4 and scoring a lot at either spot.

The first thing I thought when I read about this signing was, when paul is at the end of his career, I could see him teaming up with bdavis in LA. Just a hunch..

Clipps made a great move today. If they resign Brand (which looks likely) they should definitely be a playoff team just one notch below the Lakers, Hornets, Spurs, and Jazz. They should have a starting lineup of Davis, Gordon, Thornton, Brand, and Kaman. In my opinion their next move should be to package Mobley and Thomas who boht have 2 yrs left on their contract for Vince Carter who only has 3 yrs left. Carter is as old as Pierce and last yr he put up 21ppg 6 rpg and 5 apg shooting 46% from the field and 36% from 3. I think he could defend well too if the other vets get on him kind of how Pierce and Allen defended alot better this yr. I know Carter is soft and disappaears in big moments with fadeaways instead of taking the ball to the rim but hed be option #3 in L.A. He takes nights off during the regular season but with Brand and Davis on his team I bet that would happen a lot less as he would be held accountable. Mobley is already 33 and on the downside of his career. Tim Thomas is a guy who takes every night off, he is overpaid, and only tries hard in contract yrs. They should make this move and add depth at the 4 and 5 spot. Resigning Q. Ross wouldn't be a bad idea either as a lockdown wing defender.

The Warriors look headed for rebuilding mode and the lottery next yr which is a good thing. Right now they are stuck in the middle of the league and have thats the worst place to be. They should trade Harrington and Jackson now for expirings and picks. Trading Jackson and Harrington to the Cavs for Wally and Snow (expirings) wouldn't be the worst deal in the world. They can then suck next yr and get a top lottery pick too build with Monta, Biedrins, Randolph, and B. Wright.

The Clipps will be solid next year. Anyone bringing up depth is crazy. Gordon/Cat, Powell, Livingston, Thorton, and Ross off the bench? Yes please. You only need 2-3 good bench players anyway.

It's the Clippers. I have faith they will find a way to screw it up. They are cheap team at the core and I think players end up hating to play there..
