Ainge: Lots of players want to be Celtics

Post#1 » by Celts17Pride » Wed Jul 2, 2008 2:09 am

Ainge said he spoke to several players who both played for the Celtics last year and were on other teams and that “a lot of players want to come play for the Celtics this year.”

http://blogs.metrowestdailynews.com/celtics/

Should be really fun & interesting.

That's good. We can keep Po-Z and sign our back-ups from vets wanting to get a title. I guess that's what wining a title does for ya

It worked for San Antonio. Playoff money is sweet, your called a winner, endorsements, broadcaster gig after retirement. Oh the perks. Might even make Barkley's fav five. Look what it did for Wade.

Please resign Posey and House...

Don't resign Allen, Cassell, Brown, Pollard, sign Alonzo Mourning to a one year deal.

Sign Giddens to his first rounder rookie deal, sign Bill Walker to a 3 year deal, I want the START of the 2008/2009 seasons roster to look like this..

Ray Allen
Glen Davis
Kevin Garnett
J.R. Giddens
Eddie House
Alonzo Mourning
Kendrick Perkins
Paul Pierce
James Posey
Leon Powe
Gabe Pruitt
Rajon Rondo
Brian Scalabrine
Bill Walker

Sign a vet half way through the season, like we did with Cassell.

Like I said in another thread - I wouldn't be surprised with alot of turnover. The same bench that everyone thought wasn't good enough is now suddenly hot. The value isn't there anymore..

Apparently we also contacted Beno Udrih before he resigned at the full mle.

http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm

I think that all of Boston's FA's would be welcome back but if they are expecting that MLE money or big bumps they might be out of luck. Ainge looks like he is trying to get a full MLE addition this offseason, now I just wish he would find one that was 6'11".

That's my ideal plan too. Would love if we could roll into the season like that.

Also, a note on House; I realize everybody is talking about Posey, and justifiably so. He's our most important resign, but I also think House was a very nice fit for our team. Spacing on the floor does wonders for an offense, and you always have to respect Eddie's shot. Plus, I thought his defense and hustle were much better than advertised. Hope he wasn't too turned off by the Cassell experiment.

Man, getting Zo would be a great pickup at backup C. If we got Zo, Pose, and House on board, we'd have to be prohibitive favorites to repeat.

Then, the following year, Danny has Scal and Ray's contracts to play with. Gonna be fun.

Zo should be target number two after Posey. I also agree with Barry Lird in that House was perfect for the team and we should give him a good offer, like 5 million over two years.

I like that plan, too. A key is the mid-season signing. there always seems to be a vet PG or two out there by February to shore up the depth.

Doc's said a few times that the only trouble with Sam was that he came in too late to learn the plays in time, so I could see him putting in the request to get his veteran point earlier this year.

Between Jason Kidd and Sam Cassell, there are a couple of data points against mid=season vet PG moves , at least if the PG is going to be changing offensive systems.

Overrated? Even at his advanced age.. Alonzo Morning is still one of he best defensive centers in the NBA.

I'm going to assume that you haven't seen many Heat games over the last 2 years or so.

Like Barry Lird said, we need to resign House as well. House was a very good player for us all year. Posey and House were hug for us. You can't agrue with the reuslts. 29-3 start, best regular season record with 66 wins and a championship for the first time since 1986. Posey and House were a big part of all of that.

NBA TV was showing a marathon of this years' NBA Finals yesterday. I recorded all of the games on my DVR or permanent viewing (even the game 2 almost choke).

I just want House and Posey back. Those guys were amazing for us in the Finals, especially the Comeback Game. Any other FA signing is just gravy for me.

i understand, and also feel, the love for this years team. but DA needs to be channeling belichick and pioli right now, and do whatever makes this team best. both for 08-09 and beyond
