Your Celtics FA targets

Post#1 » by rambo_ortega » Thu Jul 3, 2008 5:46 am

We need to address our need for back-ups realistically.
A Center, PG and wing men.

Rank 'em!

SF/SG
-Posey
-Maggete
-Pietrus
-Childress
-James Jones
-Barnes
-Barry
-Allen
-Bonzi
-Ross

I think we can acquire 2 from the SF/SG group

C
-Kwame
-Magloire
-Kurt Thomas
-Ratliff
-Lorenzen
-Andersen
-POB
-Harrison

PG
-Duhon
-Pargo
-Anthony Johnson
-Hunter
-Lue
-Arroyo
-House
-Dooling

My Realistic 2008-2009 Celtics line up target

Perkins/Kwame/Scal
KG/Powe/Davis
Pierce/(1st-Posey/2nd-Maggete)/Walker
Allen/(1st-Wells/2nd-Barnes or Barry)/Giddens
Rondo/A.Johnson/Pruitt

Well, I'd steer clear of a guy like Kwame. He's a dumb player, and that has a huge impact on how he plays.

What I liked about last year's guys was that, like Danny said about Posey "He just knows how to play."

Same could be said about PJ, and House seemed like a smart player too. Guys that know how to play make a big difference come playoff time when every possession counts.

^i just think kwame is the type of guy who can be influenced by KG the way KG influenced perk. he's young and still has the tools and potential to be a nice player. if we get him cheap, i'd say we get him.

Posey, House, Ross, and Anderson. Not sure if it's possible, but I'm hoping.

Shawn Kemp! He's way better than Chris Andersen even at 38. (Which is the same age as PJ was last year, he's also still way better than PJ.)
http://www.sk40.com Check out the video at the top, he schools Spencer Hawes and Jamal Crawford. Ballhandling, post up moves, interior defense, it's all there.
He just played in some Washington All-star tournament and had 32 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
If he doesn't make the NBA he's going to start running marathons! He's lost over 50 lbs and is down to his Seattle playing weight (As the photos show.) He's also married and is a family man now, and has been clear of drugs for a long time.

He should be a family man he has like 9 kids with 8 women accordingto an article in sports illustrated written a few years back. He probably needs to play in the nba for child support purposes. He also hasn't been in the nba in awhile and when he played in the nba a few years ago he didn't do much. Glad to se he is attempting to straighten out his life.

If Posey or Meggette isn't available I hope Danny sends an offer to Keleena Azubuike.

With Rondo and Randolph Morris being prior teamates to Buike at UK coming from a system similar to Doc's in Tubby Smith's. Buike was the Team Captain and very good leader.

Buike has great size and athletic ability, he can also play multiple position's, his strengths of handels and rebounding is underated while he also can play defense in a defensive system.

Playing Nelly ball, can really kill how people look at players. But I hope Danny does at least look at this kid's SEC stat's and some of his film.

The Celtics are probably only going to sign 3 guys (of the ones you listed) because the free agents are going to be on the 12 roster, as are Giddens and Pruitt. I would like Thomas, Maggette, and Arroyo.

That would give the Celtics the 12 man roster of

PG-Rondo, Arroyo, Pruitt
SG-Ray Allen, Giddens
SF-Pierce, Maggette
PF-KG, Powe, Davis
C-Perkins, Thomas

In this scenario Magggette gets a lot of minuets at the 2 and 3; GIddens and Pruitt play sparingly.

I don't know, but it seems very likely that The Birdman will sign here.

The birdman isn't that good, I don't know why you'd get your hopes up for him. Even before he was kicked to the curb, the guy wasn't anything special. The hornets let him go and they need BIGs.

Azubuike would be nice, but I don't think the Warriors let him walk, they have tons of cap space. He'd be an upgrade over Posey if we could grab him. When he gets minutes he produces and in the Golden State system, has even played center for them. Very versatile player. Another GS guy who is a free agent is Barnes. I don't know if he'd be too great of a fit with the Celtics, but he did play very well in the playoffs against Dallas.

i like birdman here because of his length and athleticism. something we don't have outside kg and would compliment our undersized pf's. but how is andersen's offense?

Let's give Birdman to expand his wings again.

Thomas and Maggette both think they are > full MLE players. I don't see how we even come close to signing them both.

does anyone have any ideas as to some other free agents (retired or semi-retired) that Ainge may be looking at... remember that he does tend to think outside the box (Reggie Miller, Larry Brown as an assistant) so perhaps there are some player that we haven't even considered because they are off the map... I would be curious if some of our more knowledgeable fans out there would share some insights into who Ainge may be targeting considering his tendency to pull off some pretty unexpected moves... would a player like Shawn Kemp be an idea ??

lue is also a good option and he has narrowed his choices to the C's,suns and mavs. it would be nice to get him in a good price.

devean george can also be an insurance guy if we don't get posey. he has a championship, he's a big sf who can physically match lebron and can provide shooting.

Choice #1: In a perfect world I'd want Posey, K. Thomas and Pargo. Those three and Powe would give us the best bench in the NBA by far. I also think those four guys provide a nice balance of youth and experience, energy and solid play, offense and defense, etc. Of course that's likely to be just about impossible under the cap given what it's rumored Posey and Pargo are asking for, but who knows.

Choice #2: Taking the cap situation into account, I guess my preference would be to use the whole MLE on Maggette, then bring in some championship chasers at the vet min to fill in the rest of the bench. Maybe D. Armstrong and Mourning?

Choice #3: I'm not sure what Pietrus and Harrison are looking for, but it wouldn't be a terrible third option to split the MLE between those two, then brining in a vet min championship chaser to back up Rondo.
