In case James Posey signs with another team, how about Eduardo Najera? He's an energy guy off the bench, good rebounder and defender, can defend the three frontcourt postions, has added a very efficient three-point shot, and is an unrestricted free agent. His main negative is his injury history, but I rather sign him over Nachbar or the other flotsam and jetsam out there.

Thoughts?

Yes, this is a very excellent suggestion. He is no difference from James Posey.

I don't think he's any better, or any different, than Scal, although Brian probably has the edge over Ed in the "post finals press conference hilarious interviews" category.

If we're really at the bottom of the barrel, which is what Najera is, I'd just throw Giddens/Walker to the wolves and give them the PT.

Fine with me. Don't want Posey unless it's on a one-year deal.

Jarvis Hayes, James Jones and Nachbar also suit me fine. People are acting like Posey is some great player key to the success of the Celtics. He's easily replaceable.

I didn't even realize he was an unrestricted FA this year. He'd be a great pickup if Posey does decide to cash in somewhere.

Not only does he bring a lot of the toughness, energy and other "intangibles" that Posey brings... check out how their stats matchup. MF'n uncanny...

Najera is not that good. I say no. And for those that actually think there is no difference betweeen him and Posey, you don't really understand the game.

I think one thing people are forgetting. Playing with PGA will make average players look more important than they really are. So yes, this would be a fine signing, because whoever the Cs get to replace Posey if he leaves, will more than likely look better than they have their entire career.

Well ya theres a huge difference between him and Posey but if we cant get Posey Id def give Najera a look at.

I wouldn't want him. He is more of a pf then a sf and we are loaded at the pf spot with KG/Powe/Davis/Scal. There's no way that you can put Najera on a Kobe, Lebron, etc. like you did Posey. At pf he can be effective because he can spread the floor with the 3 and hustle for rebounds...but he really only started shooting 3s this past year so he might not sustain 36% shooting from the outside (kinda like Scal shot 40% from 3 last year and went down to 33% this year).

I wouldn't mind Najera at all...he could be a great fit in our system.

Looking at what has happened in the division I am starting to think that Najera or Kurt Thomas fill Boston's needs more than Posey. We have got to worry about matching up at the 4/5 more than worrying about the 10 mpg Pierce isn't at the SF spot.

I like Posey but he is not a pure PF and we lose a little with him at that spot expecially with KG at the 5. With O'Neal and Brand now in the division this is a concern.

Thomas likely stays in SA so Najera may be a solid option. He isn't quite the defensive presence that Posey is especially in the team sense, but he is good. He is a much better individual defender at the PF spot, a better rebounder, and he has developed the ability to knock down the open 3. He brings a physical presence to the game and he is a winner. He had an adj+/- of +9 last season 2nd only to AI on the Nuggets, conversely Posey was a -9 in Boston. That stat has a lot to do with who and when you play but it does show that he is a positve on the floor.

Comparing him to Scal or dissing him as not as good a player as Posey is weak. Production wise Posey and Najera are almost identical, Posey gives you 3's Najera crashes the offensive glass and gives points in the paint.

even tho posey can guard 4's, i feel like were bound to see more of baby and powe this year, and so that we wouldve seen less of posey playing quasi-4 as it is, so that shouldnt be our biggest concern as long as we can replace the role posey plays, if he signs elsewhere

That is a fair perspective but if it is true then we don't really need Posey at all for the kind of dough we are talking about. He played more mins at the 4 than the 3. Of the big 3 the guy who we need to back up the least is Pierce. We are likely to have plenty of SG's. The mins are available are actually at the 5 and by default the 4. I like Baby and Powe and want to see more of them but neither is going to change the game guarding the PF spot.

Najera is a bit short for what I am looking for to be honest. Does anyone know what happened to Lorenzen Wright? I know he went a little crazy there at the end in Memphis and then signed in ATL and didn't play he is only 32 he might be a fit for 10-15 mpg.
