Time to Do a Deal with the Clippers - Bye Scal

Post#1 » by Jammer » Wed Jul 9, 2008 6:35 am

With Brand Going to Phili, and Maggette to the Warriors, the time is right to do a deal with the Clippers.

Their Roster for Next Year

$13,000,000 Baron Davis (if he signs for 5 years at $65 Million as Agreed)
$ 9,500,000 Chris Kaman
$ 8,925,000 Cuttino Mobley
$ 6,049,400 Tim Thomas
$ 2,623,200 (#7 Pick Eric Gordon at 120% of Rookie Scale)
$ 1,776,240 Al Thornton
$ 1,728,000 Brevin Knight
$ 886,517 Nick Fazekas
$ 864,000 Josh Powell
$ 442,114 DeAndre Jordan (2008 #35 Pick)
$ 442,114 Mike Taylor (2008 #55 Pick, Clippers traded their 2009 2nd Round Pick to Get him)

11 Players totaling $46,236,185 where Cap is $ 58,680,000

The Clips can renounce their rights to Shaun Livingston, and still re-sign him, if they want to. That would remove a cap hold of $14,524,462.

EITHER WAY, ton of cap room ($12.45 Million if they renounce Livingston, who they can still re-sign)

Now, for the deal:

Clippers Depth Chart

PG: Baron Davis / Brevin Knight / Mike Taylor
SG: Cuttino Mobley / Eric Gordon
SF: Al Thornton /
PF: Tim Thomas / Nick Fazekas
C: Chris Kaman / DeAndre Jordan / Josh Powell

where Tim Thomas actually prefers Small Forward anyway.

Trade Brian Scalabrine + Gabe Pruitt for two second round picks

or

Trade Brian Scalabrine + Gabe Pruitt + $3 Million Cash + Glen Davis for
Timberwolves Top Ten Protected Pick AND Future Second Round Pick

When opportunity knocks, seize it.

Sign Posey, don't b*tch
Sign House
Sign J Will or Lue
Sign Mutombo, Mourning or Pollard

The Celtics' roster is depleted as it is. If you do the smaller trade (Scall + Pruitt), then we'd be left with just 7 players under contract, at approx. $67 million. Not sure why the Clippers do the trade either.

I can't see Ainge wasting his time trying to deal for future 2nd rounders when there's more championships to be won. This trade makes the end of the bench signifigantly less goofy and nothing more.

Also, Ainge would never trade a youngin that was essentially redshirted his rookie year and has no value around the league. When has he ever traded a young player when his value was at an all time low?

get over it already. scalabrine is probably the most untradeable contract in the league.

besides the last thing we need is more useless second rounders

This makes no sense. I know Scal is who he is, but him and Pruitt for two second round picks? That is ridiculous.

The Celtics won't be depleted if they resign the players I listed.

The Key is the active 12 players, besides, the Celts only want to carry 13 starting the season anyway, given the lux tax.

Look at their depth chart if they traded Pruitt, Scal & Davis and did those signings:

PG: Rajon Rondo / Eddie House / J Will or T Lue
SG: Ray Allen / JR Givens
SF: Paul Pierce / James Posey
PF: Kevin Garnett / James Posey / Leon Powe
C: Kendrick Perkins / Mutombo or Mourning / Pollard

That's the active 12.

The 13th player could be Bill Walker if he doesn't go overseas, or another free agent pickup.
But since he wouldn't be on the active roster, it's likely not to be someone very good.

First off, there are easily 60 more untradeable contracts, at least.

Think Marbury, Zach Randolph, Q-Rich, J-Jeffries, K. Van Horn, S. Claxton, to start.

Second, the point is not to acquire 2nd round picks, although that is a bonus.

The point is to clear roster spots, and clear salary, to reduce the impact of the lux tax.

If Posey is re-signed, Scal is useless unless KG or Posey or Powe is injured. Even then, he's really not in the rotation.

Same for Pruitt, who you could argue, is still the SG he was in college, in an NBA point guard's body.

Clears $4 Million of salary, and $4 Million of Luxury Tax ($8 Million Celtic saving).

Clippers add 3 Ubuntu players to help instill work ethic and team play in youngins like
DeAndre Jordan, Eric Gordon and Mike Taylor.

I know, I mean Scal alone is worth a couple of used basketballs, some sneakers, and a footlong ham sandwich from Subway, right?

Well, I agree that it won't happen, but if Raef LaFrentz's contract could be traded there is no such thing as an untradeable contract.

We all know how Sterling loves to spend money, especially for quality players such as Scal. Please.

Jammer with all due respect, why do you keep coming up with these stupid Scalabrine trades when it will NEVER happen in a million years? No one wants Scalabrine. No one!

1) Clippers would never make that trade.

2) Let wait until the big money dries up and go from there.

I dont think Danny signed any free agents until August 1st last year. Once the free agents know they are in for a big payday, they will look for teams that can win now.

The Clippers wouldn't make that trade because they don't need Pruitt. Making that trade is equivalent to signing Gabe Pruitt to Scal's contract. Besides they would rather spend their money on Josh Smith.

Every team, including us with older players, needs decent big guys to practice with. Scal fills this role nicely. We also have a problem with our total salary filling out the roster, Scal may be better than anyone we can sign, even though Ainge says everyone wants to be a Celtic.

Clipps wouldn't do that deal and Boston fans would riot for trading "The Veal", at least my best friend would, she loves Scal.

So you think the Clippers want to add a bunch of payroll and give up #2 picks, just to get some Ubuntu?

Or give up a potentially good first rounder to get even more, Big Baby super-sized ubuntu???

Maybe they'll trade us Al Thornton in exchange for a motivational speech from Doc, while we're at it.

Scal is here for atleast another year, no doubt about that. He'll be valuable all of a sudden ... when he's expiring. In that case, we'll probably deal him during the February 2010 trade deadline, unless Danny can put him in as expiring filler for a trade in the 2009 offseason.

lol thats funny because hasn't scal injured atleast two people at practice? But anyway I don't see this as a good move for either team because Pruitt has shown promise in the nbadl and his little time in the nba and the celts need a backup pg, and its just flat out bad for the clippers taking on scalabrine.
